What day do you actually get pregnant after intercourse? That day? Or does it take a coulple of days?

Im confussed. Im trying to find out what day I got pregnant. I had a normal period in October, and I should have had one at the end of September. I bleed for two days but it was very light and irregular, more like spotting. This was September 28th. I should have had my next period at the very end of October, but I didnt. I want to know the EXACT day I got pregnant. Was it the same day that I had sex or was it a couple of days later? Books say if you are 27 weeks then your baby is 25 weeks old. So I am very confussed on how far along I am. If I knew how long it takes to get pregnant then that would help me know what day it was that I actually got pregnant. Thanks for taking the time to read this, I hope you can help me

Update:

Also just for the people who might think this question is to identify the dad, its not...Im not sure exactly how far along I am, and I am worried. The one thing I do know is I am some where between 25-30 weeks. I was diagnosed with an incompetant cervix and had a cerclage done a week and a half ago. They said my chances of carrying the baby full term are slim. Im worrried im not as far along as they thought. If im not then the baby could be born with brain damage... I can think of a couple of times that come to mind when I had intercourse with my boyfriend. Which one would be right tho??? How far along am I really???

Pregnancy actually starts the moment the sperm meets the ovum. it does not start at the exact time that you have intercourse. It takes a couple of days for the sperm to find the ovum in the female reproductive system. Depending on when intercourse took place. If you got pregnant, you and your boyfriend probably had intercourse when you were ovulating. Ovulation takes place exactly 14 days BEFORE the FIRST day of your expected monthly menstrual period. If you were supposed to have your menstrual period at the end of October (say, October 28, that makes it exactly 30 days from Sept 28), that means you were ovulating around October 14. Then, conception started around 2-3 days after that date. Here's how you'll know how far along you are: Count how many days it has been since the first day of your last menstrual period (up to today) Divide the number by 7... that's how far along you are in weeks. That's what I learned in Med School so you could rely on that information. I hope that helps. Take care of yourself.

Okay here's the deal..... the pregnancy phase starts with day one of your cycle, which is day one of your last period. You actually get pregnant a couple of weeks into your cycle, but doctors count the first day of your cycle, NOT the fertile phase. This explains why you are 27 weeks along, but the baby is only 25 weeks old.

No one can tell you the EXACT day you got pregnant...it's not an exact science. Even with due dates, they tell you give or take two weeks on either end. All you can do is take the first day of your last period and start counting weeks. You weren't clear as to whether you had a period in October or not. First you said you"had a normal period in October" then went on to say "I should have had my next period in October, but I didn't." Since I'm confused as to whether you did or didn't have a period in October, I can't really count for you to tell you how far along you are (you might want to re-write this part of your question though so others aren't confused too).

The other thing I would strongly suggest is that you have an ultrasound. An ultrasound in your second trimester will tell them how far along the baby actually is. You should really be discussing all of this with your doctor. You and he/she should be making these decisions together. An incompetent cervix can be worked with. As long as you've had the procedure and stay on bed rest, you will be able to carry your baby to a safe enough point where he can be delivered.

    Good luck.

Okay, i've been trying to get pregnant for a year now (yes, i know what i'm doing, I have fertility issues) So this is what i have learned. Sperm can live inside of you for up to five days. You know, i started typing up a long drawn out answer and i realized it would be a lot easier if you could give me dates of when you had intercourse. It you can do that, I can try to help you. Good Luck!

I think... 40 weeks gestation is an average. I thing the only time you are supposed to be fertile is 2 weeks after your period. But sperm and eggs can live for a couple of days so it's not that accurate. Doctors just call it as 2 weeks after your period, whenever you fall in, as they can't know for sure. Usually it would be the day you had sex, or shortly after if no egg had dropped yet i.e. within 2-3 days.

If the conception happens in your ovulation period, you will be pregnant. Ovulation period happens 14th day after the 1st day of your mentrual period, so if you have intercourse 7 days before & 3 days after your ovulation period, you are positive. Recall your LMP (last menstrual period), maybe you got pregnant 8-18th day after your LMP. Be sure to include the 1st day of your period when counting.
