what engine size, transmission, rear end? even the size of tires makes a difference in speed. though the hp is the same.

I would recommend caution in buying this car, Pontiac didn't have a 72 t-top, the T/As didn't have t-tops until 76 with the anniversary T/As if it's a real 72 then it has been ruined because if it has t-tops then someone either cut them into the top or they put a top on from another car, either way this car would be dangerous, or the last is that it is a later 70's with a 72 front end on it, be careful on this purchase, 72's are the rarest of all and even junked out ones sell for a high price.

the average price depends on how clean the paint interior and mileage of the vehicle. Make sure there is no water damage around the t-tops otherwise you would have to replace the seals and maybe replace the headliner. the engine has at least 350 HP and that depends on how well maintained. also check the plugs for corrosion and the cap and rotor. check the rear tires and the fender wells for rubber. If the wells have rubber residue on them and there is extensive wear on the tires then the owner burns out which may indicate abuse of the vehicle. Now, if in good condition and well maintained maybe $8,000 and that is a low ball estimate. The are becoming more rare as time passes.

get an old car price guide. kbb and nada are about worthless. with an old car price guide it breaks the cars down into 5 classes from resto trailer queen to parts cars.

as for hp your looking at around 255-330 according to my chiltons. i would say probabally less than 300. I recommend the book building performance pontiac engines by jim hand. a 400 or 455 will drop right in since it is the same external size as the 350. I have seen some 350 hopped up. but most will discard them for the larger engines. you could do a cam, intake swap and install headers. that would warm it up a bit. see the below links

That car should have either a 400 or 455 engine. Too bad it's a T-top. The value will depend on equipment and condition.

what size is the motor? 455 400 350 pontiac motors make 150 to 260 during that year thats a guestimate the potential horsepower rating would be as goes, how much money do you want to spend. thats what your horsepower will be.

Rob is correct - the T-top wasn't introduced until 1976, and it was a regular production option starting in 1977. Your top is either an aftermarket (most likely) or converted from a later roof.

well most 72 T/A's w/the 350's had listed 225hp but pry were closer to 250-275, as far as what its capable of...depends on what rear gear is in it (2.41, 2.56, 3.23, 3.53, 3.73, 4.10) the higher the # the more off the line u'll get...but top end will be dramatically decreased but where the shift points in the transmission will play a factor as well

Source(s): and to add to Robs...72 did have a T-top...but was special order only...and only did just over of 100...but if its a true 72...check the VIN#'s YearOne has a great thing that explains how to read VIN#'s...so check the VIN and compare to YearOne's VIN# IDer...that will ansewr all ur questions as to if it really is a 72
