Need to lose weight?

I need to lose about 30-40 pounds but my parents only buy unhealthy food. I want to lose weight so I won't be embarassed to take off my shirt at the beach this summer. I really need a good way to start a diet and exericise. I'm having trouble getting started a diet and could use some help and maybe a good site for overweight teens. TY

Update:

Ok, everyone is saying to ask for healthier foods. I've asked my parents and they say no because when I was 7 (14 now) I ate only junk food. They think I don't eat anything other than junk because I did that 7 years ago. My parents are always calling me fat but won't do anything to help me lose weight. I have no weights and my parents won't buy me any.

I know you are looking for something that doesn't involve asking your parents for healthier food, but you are currently fourteen years old. It's time to ask your parents to talk (away from any siblings, maybe even outside of the home) and say that you want to have healthier food.

The best way for them to say yes is to know what healthier food means. Go in saying that you want to get rid of the white bread or to just add some whole grain bread to the house. Ask for some more fruit and vegetables at the house. A sweet simple idea is to ask to use smaller plates at the dinner table (it's psychological, most people only eat one plate of food because they don't want to look like a pig thus less food and also because many people feel the need to have the plate filled whenever they eat), or ask for some snacks like almonds or oranges instead of Chewy bars and candy (which honestly never fill you up like a good apple!)

If they want proof that you are going to follow through, order a salad at a resturant, grab a bunch of fruit the next time you're at the buffet!

Next, it is the end of April. Sadly, this means that losing the weight you want to in the next few weeks is just not going to happen with out extreme changes that are honestly only possible once you get out on your own or convince your parents that you need to go on a super diet. The best way, safest way, and the smartest way is to do it slowly. Start with changing the little things during one week:

-refuse to eat after 8 pm,

-drink a glass of water at least every hour and a half (try having one during each class at school if you can have water bottles, so that you can use the restroom in between if you can),

-slice your portions in to smaller bites and chew each one a lot,

-drink a bunch of non-caloric liquid before eating anything at a meal (water and tea are pretty much your only options, but skim milk is a pretty good idea too).

As a teenager you have a special time called a summer vacation that is an amazing time to get out there and move. Join a sandvolleyball league, get swimming lessons, go jogging in the heat. Take advantage

As a overweight teenager myself (who is still overweight but severely smaller than a guy the same weight as me because of fitness and muscle and not a teenager for much longer) these are things I use. I find that you also have to play with your fears when trying to lose weight. If you are embarassed running in gym class because of the jiggling (my least favorite thing ever), run at night when less people can see you and its cooler or in obscure neighborhoods in other school districts. I also find it a little embarrassing at the gym so I tend to just jog or do push ups and other stuff at home with the door closed so the family doesn't interrupt.

Starting a diet is really hard, but the best way to do it is to have your best friend helping you out. Tell the guy (hopefully a supportive dude who can handle sensitive stuff, you know the guy who you cried with when his grandma died not the guy you just check out chicks with at the lunch table) to give a signal when your getting a little piggy at the lunch table or remind you to eat the salad before the oreos because you might be too full to eat the oreos.

The biggest part is to remember to be confident and happy. You look thinner. A smile on your face will turn most eyes away from the extra padding. The eyes it doesn't turn are a**holes anyways.

If you are looking for more tips google losing weight or weight loss tips, it helps out severely. Make sure that you get multiple sources because this will usually give out what worked for an individual and you may be different. Take what you like and run with it. Go to the library and see if they have old issues of Men's Health and check out the weight loss stuff and look at the workouts and excercises they have that don't require weights, swiss balls, or anything else.

Hey good luck and wish me the same!

Don't eat unhealthy food, tell your parents to buy you some healthy food. And run/walk for 1 hr about 4 miles. Dont' eat anything after 8 P.M. and drink 7-8 glasses of water every day. That's how i lost 18 lbs in 2 months.

Well youre going to have to start counting calories sadly. Eat anything (except fatty foods) and eat 500 calories for breakfast, 300 for lunch, and 500 at dinner, and 200 for a small snack. Exercise on a machiene untill you burn about 200 or more calories. Eat at subway alot. GOOD LUCK!

You can start by asking them to buy healthy food. Getting more exercise (running, bicycling, swimming, anything that gets your heart rate up) will help to burn calories and fat. Also, don't starve yourself because if your body goes too long without eating it goes into a sort of "survival mode" where it will consume itself (your muscle) instead of consuming fat. Lifting weights will add more muscle mass to your frame, which is important because muscle burns calories, even when it isn't doing anything (i.e. sleeping, resting, ...). So basicly, ask your parents to buy healthier food, lift weights, and do some form of cardiovascular exercise.

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!
