I'm 50 and I'm going to a 'rock concert'. Should I take GPS?

I am told that these things can be quite popular with the young people. Though since there are only 12 bands, even if they all brought their friends I don't see it would be that busy.

But just in case I want to nip to the bathroom part way through, do you think it would be a good idea to take GPS so I can find the wife and daughter again in the crowds?

No need, just dress your family in dayglo yellow and pink (very trendy these days), and with the blue neon lights you'll spot them from a mile off. Plus your family would be quite a talking point among your fellow members of the audience. (That's the second time today that I've recommended the use of dayglo in an answer, could this be a fetish? Oh, I do hope so, I've never had anything quite that exotic before!)

Having a method to easily locate one another in a busy venue is a great idea. But taking expensive electronics to a gig is inadvisable because it exposes you to additional security checks and makes you more of a target for pickpockets and thieves.

I am in your age group, and when I go to concerts with my teenage son and his friends, I get everyone to set their mobiles to vibrate+ring, and conceal them in a pocket. Then we can text each other if we get separated.

We also agree a central meeting point when first arriving at a venue; somewhere we will all congregate if we get separated, or at a specific time (eg to catch the train home).

Take some earplugs. I'm 48 but not as old-sounding as you......."the young people"? You're not exactly old, are you?

It got very loud at the Rolling Stones concert I went to last year, and left a ringing sound in my ears for a day afterwards!
