PC Automatically Shuts Down, PS Fan continues to run.?
I have a EMachine, T2792 with an Imperial GV Motherboard. (dont laugh, this pc lasted 3 years, a year longer than I expected).
It just started shutting down but the PS fan will continue to run.
To restart, I have to UnPlug the PS from the wall. When I plug the PS back in, the PS fan automatically starts spinning. I click on the power button and the PC will start up but in about 5 min, sometimes more (maybe 1/2 hr) it will shut down again.
I cleaned the CPU Heatsink and all the fans. I checked the CPU temp and it reads 45c. so that shouldnt be the problem.
I changed the PS and I get the same results as the original PS.
I'm thinking it is a bad MB and getting an overheated resister, diode or whatever else that could go wrong on a MB.
Any Ideas?
Finally, of course you cannot just take the HD and install it in another PC. WinXp wont let you do that.
Will an Identical MB work? I'm thinking it will.
Thanks.
Thank You for all your replys but....
ALL Fans are all OK as stated in initial question - There is No Extra Noise coming from the fans. They are all clean and running smoothly. Everything, all heatsinks are cleaned out and the CPU is operating at around 45c (which norm is below 75-80c)
I did notice that some of the capasitors are slightly buldging (not leaking) on the top where all the rest of the capasitor tops are completely flat. (potential reason for the problem??).

Check you Motherboard for distended capistors, the laymen translation, look at the barrel shaped things on the mother board, of the ends are buldgeing out or leaking out the top, you have a bad mobo.

Is it near a heating vent or something? The fan continues to run because something is too hot. If it's the cpu fan, it because the cpu is hot, it it's the case fans, it's because the over all temp of the chasis it too hot. Before buying another MB, I'd try running the PC without the side of the case on. You also may try cleaning the whole case, they can get cluttered with dust pretty quickly (especially if you have flat and not round cables) which can hamper air flow. I clean my case out once a month and I've never had temp problems. I did the same thing with my last computer (which still runs fine, give it to my sis with I built a new one) and I had it for five years. If over heating it the problem, then buy a new chasis, not MB.
As for the same model, good luch finding one if the computer is three years old. Furthermore, I think each MB has it's own serial number, so I don't think changing will work without reinstalling XP.
Hope this helps,

Here is a $10 solution. Replace the fan.
It is not doing the job of cooling properly. Probably you hear the fan noise to be louder than usual. The motor bearing has worn out. Also check for hair caught in the spindle. It has picked up the debris from the floor or the carpet and it has tangled in the motor. This is the cause. Replace that first and report back.

its possible ur comp overheats. this happened to my comp when the fan didnt fuunction. try running the comp with the cpu case removed so u can see if the fan is still turning. if not u hav to replace the fan. the comp shuts down or restarts cos the processor is overheating and to stop further damage. a comp doesnt shut down on its own for no reason, there is something seriously wrong. i think u shud just try once to see if fan is working and if it just shuts down again..dont switch it on again..go get it repaired.
also u can download some software on download.com to check ur hard-disk temperature. type hard disk temperature and search there..u will find a free software. if u get a blue screen of death u definitely shudnt switch ur comp on again.
