Areas to live in Dallas, TX?
I am moving to Dallas from Atlanta and I am looking for an area to live. I do not have kids so school district is not a concern. I would prefer more of a metro location versus rural but don't necessarily need to live right in downtown Dallas. If anybody has ever been to Atlanta, I would prefer an area of Dallas that is similar to Buckhead.

Uptown area just north of downtown Dallas! Since you don't have kids you'll love the area for it's restaurants, shopping, art galleries, clubs and cool urban vibe. Lots of choices of apartments, condos and townhouses... easy access to major interstate highways, etc.

Ignore the two kiddies having a retard slap fight above. I travel quite frequently for my job and I love the Buckhead area. I know just the place for you.
Post Addison Circle is a Metro area right smack in the middle of North Dallas. It's Metro living in a suburban environment and it's close to EVERYTHING. The apartment complex has:
4 Pools
Secured Gate Access to over 10 Buildings and 1300
Apartments all within walking distance
Tons of different floor plans to offer
Bars, Stores, and Restaurants Right Underneath the apartments
Close access to Belt Line Road where all the rest of the restaurants and bars are located
Community activities full of young professionals
It took me a few years before I moved into the complex because I thought it was overpriced but you really get what you pay for when it comes to Dallas. The fact that I don't have to drive very far to have a social life is incredible and it was so easy meeting people being from a new place. I love the place. I've included a link to the website with pictures and a listing of all available apartments and prices. Hope this helps!

The Addison suggest is a good one, but it is new.
You don't say if you want apartments or houses, and you didn't pick your price. I think you should look in the Lakewood area, which has some great funky shopping spots, some lovely older homes, and a pretty diverse feel. It's close to downtown.
In addition you might want to look in the Preston Hollow or near North Dallas area.
Dallas homes are different from Atlanta. For the most part we don't have the large lots and winding streets. The areas I've mentioned tend to have some larger lots. All over town, people are tearing down older homes and building McMansions.
I have a friend who specializes in Lakewood real estate. Just do a search on Lakewood realtors.

I just moved here less than a month ago from Los Angeles. Dallas is great because a lot of the suburbs are newer and cleaner than big old cities like L.A/Chicago etc. You get a lot more for your money. Plano is great all around, schools, things to do, beautiful area! Frisco is newer and not as developed as Plano but is just gorgeous. These areas are nice and upscale with some diversity (not all spanish/rednecks etc) I like diversitiy myself, but the area has to be upscale! good Luck!

I don't know about Buckhead, but I'd suggest uptown or the lower Greenville area. You may want to pick your place based on where you'll work. I know people who live in Plano and Frisco and have to drive more than 1.5 hours each way to work in Downtown Dallas.

i never stayed in atlanta long enough to look around.. was always just driving from fort stewart to dallas on leave. the nicer places to live in the metroplex are Bedford, Keller, Hurst, Southlake, North Richland Hills, Grand Prairie.........places you do not want to live in are south Dallas, East Fort Worth, Euless, and Haltom City and certain places in Arlington......................... if you want somewhere with a low crime rate stick to Keller, Bedford, and Southlake
Source(s): live in Keller currently but am moving soon to Bedford since my husband is about to start working for their Police Department - Anonymous1 decade ago
Definitely give Uptown a serious look.
