Is McCain going to succeed in trashing Giuliani's competence?
McCain trashed Rudy today, referencing the 9/11 communications problem (Firemen responding couldn't hear firemen even a few yards away).
Giuliani seems to be strongly running on his 9/11 leadership, yet:
He located his emergency command center at the WTC after it had been attacked once, when he likely should have known it was a probable target.
He presided over an FDNY response, that was heroic but very much lacking in coordination and top level leadership (see above).
He failed to demonstrate any leadership in the recovery effort. Thousands of recovery workers are now sick, many have died, due to the lack of stringent safety standards at Ground Zero.
Does McCain have an opening here?
jp8: yes, I think that the Onion pretty much nailed it with their article about Rudy running as 'the President of 9/11'.
Sentinel: so mccain won't succeed?
It just seems sort of bizarre that conservatives seem to be favoring are a "reflected-glory" guy over an actual war hero. Umm.. sorry, I guess it doesn't seem so strange after all.

What competence? Giulliani was a horrible mayor with a horrible approval rating just before 9/11. All he's doing now is riding the wave of post 9/11, and it will come crashing down. Forget McCain, he's another has been.

Im sorry, but rudy didnt do much at 9/11. The police and firemen and soldiers are the heroes of that situation and for him to run his campaign on that situation is cowardly.

Whatever McCain does to Rudy won't help him. His name - and philosophy - will always be associated with the McCain-Feingold Act. It did nada to reform campaign financing abuses, and everything to quash free speech. (Is this a great country, or what?)
