Is eating a protein bar for breakfast and lunch and a low cal dinner healthy?

I am doing this new diet with a product from quixtar. I am eating one of there Trim Advantage protein bars for breakfast, and one for lunch.(the bars are 250 calories each) For supper i eat a small high fiber meal. I drink tons of water, i small diet pop a day, if that and no snacking in between. I recentely got the dvd HIP HOP ABS and it is amazing. It is fun easy and just like dancing. If you can shake what your momma gave ya, you can do this exercise program. So basically what i was wondering was if this diet is goin to work. I have stuck with it and havent cheated yet, so for me that is a good sign.-thanks hal-pal

No that doesn't sound healthy. For one thing, the vitamins and minerals in those bars are mostly artificial and can't replace the benefits you get from eating whole natural foods, especially fruits, vegetables and whole grains as well as protein. Besides you aren't learning healthy eating habits this way. Your body is going into starvation mode, and when you stop eating the bars and go back to your old eating habits, you will gain more weight than ever.

Congratulations for getting started on a healthy path that includes exercise. Without exercise, no "diet" works for the long-term.

Not knowing your weight makes it difficult to say, but consuming less than 1,200 to 1,450 calories per day on any diet is not advisable. You're getting 500 from Trim Advantage, and it doesn't sound like dinner provides another 1,000 or so. You could kick up healthy snacking a little to provide fuel your body needs. Your approach right now is deprivation. Ted Walters and others at The Better Life Institute would recommend adding snacks like cottage cheese, carrots, fruits and nuts, slices of turkey, veggies with hummus, or a proteing shake between meals.

According to Julianne Downes, R.D., undereating does not help achieve weight loss! You need calories to jump-start your metabolism. Eating small meals and snacks throughout the day keeps your body running. Skipping them puts your body in "fasting mode" and it only holds on to the fat it has stored.

Keep up your good work! For more information, check out the Trim Body web site. For disclosure's sake, I'm responsisble for Quixtar's PR efforts.

If you aren't getting enough calories, then this diet could backfire. If you are constantly hungry or feeling deprived, you can add calories without risking weight gain. Add some high fiber toast and a peice of fruit for breakfast; maybe add a salad with light dressing or a turkey sandwich for lunch.

Not getting enough calories slows your metabolism and if you returned to your old eating habits, you could put on weight faster than before. So just make sure that youre getting enough food so that you can stick with it.

    Good luck!

You are not eating enough. You need a certain amount of carbohydrates to fuel your workouts. Understand that it's ok to eat when you are trying to lose weight. You must eat to lose weight, but you must eat the right types of foods. Check the nutrition facts on the protein bars. Most of them are packes with sugars. Find out how many calories you should be taking in, knock off about 250 from that, and keep exercising.

The protein bars are NOT a sub for meals. They are to build muscle. You need to eat more food,5-6 small well balanced meals a day, drink 6-8 glasses of water a day, more on hot days.Snack on fruit and veg sticks to keep your energy levels high.

It all comes down to how much you weigh and how active you are. Having under 1000 cals a day is very dangerous if you are active. Especially when trying to loose weight. This is because your bodys metabolism slows down, resulting in your body getting used to eating little food. When you begin to eat more again (maybe once you have lost the weight) the weight will pile on as your metabolism is very slow. The best way to loose weight when eating, is to have a split of

    40% carbs

    40% proteins

    20% fats

because this allows your body to recieve all the energy it needs. Make sure that fat comes from unsaturated fat. And that the carbs are wholegrain (complex).

Calculate your RMR (resting metabolic rate) and then subtract 500 cals from it to loose 1lb of fat per week (3500 cals in 1lb of fat).
