What is salvation?

How do you get it? How can you keep it?

Update:

Ok...I will tell you all my personal belief. Salvation is being delivered, preserved, saved from the law of sin and death by the believing that the shed blood of Yashua, Christ Jesus paid the price. He was raised from the dead and sits at the right hand of the Father.

It's when you get a massage and someone rubs salve all over you.

You can get it at Walgreens and it keeps nicely on a bathroom shelf.

I think it's realizing we have all made mistakes. Some horrible mistakes. But we realize we have another chance. Another chance to make things right, another chance to live life to be good people and be happy. I don't know if all it takes is that Jesus died on the cross and that if we take him as our saviour everything is all right. To me salvation is realizing our second chance to start new, and live by the teachings of love, peace, understanding. It is like being reborn, but not in the sense most christians think. It's not a free ticket, it's starting with a clean slate, and being a better person. Makes this life happier, and hopefully, whatever comes after, if anything.

This is a not often quoted passage, but probably about the most useful one you'll get. Salvation is kind of an assumed meaning throughout the bible, and pops up in conflicting sorts of ways... I do believe this verse sheds light on that too:

    Phillipians 2 : 5 -13

For, let this mind be in you that [is] also in Christ

Jesus, who, being in the form of God, thought [it] not robbery to be equal to God,

but did empty himself, the form of a servant having taken, in the likeness of men having been made,

and in fashion having been found as a man, he humbled himself, having become obedient unto death -- death even of a cross, wherefore, also, God did highly exalt him, and gave to him a name that [is] above every name,

that in the name of Jesus every knee may bow -- of heavenlies, and earthlies, and what are under the earth --and every tongue may confess that Jesus Christ [is] Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

So that, my beloved, as ye always obey, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, with fear and trembling

    your own salvation work out,

for God it is who is working in you both to will and to work for His good pleasure.

1 Peter 3:20,21 Which had been some time incredulous, when they waited for the patience of God in the days of Noe, when the ark was a building: wherein a few, that is, eight souls, were saved by water. 21Whereunto baptism being of the like form, now saveth you also: not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the examination of a good conscience towards God by the resurrection of Jesus Christ. (DRC)

    To be saved,

    1. it is necessary to dedicate oneself to doing God's will 100%

    2. it is necessary to repent of prior sin and produce works befitting repentance

    3. it is necessary to be baptized -- baptism is equaled with Noah's ark! This spiritual ark is what one is entered upon being immersed, baptized.

    4. it is necessary to refrain from practicing sin after one's baptism -- this leads to eternal damnation!

    5. and yes, it is a must to preach the Good News to others.

    6. since the truth, the blood, and the spirit sanctifies -- it is a must to worship God in truth and spirit.

    7. I've probably forgotten something ! What did I forget?

At the Church of the Subgenius you get eternal salvation or triple your money back. Salvation costs $30 and entails being taken aboard the aliens' spaceships on X-day (June something 1998, which, contrary to popular belief, hasn't happened yet) with the sex goddesses before the spaceships destroy the planet, with the Con and all the pink boys left behind on the surface.

    Or something like that.

Salvation is accepting Jesus Christ into your heart as your Lord and Savior. You keep it by abiding in Christ.

Salvation is when you've asked the Lord to forgive you of your sins and you begin living your life serving Him. How you get it is by praying and asking God to forgive you. And you keep it, by staying in church and in the Word of God and doing what honest, right and just. I wish you well on your journey. I pray that you find Jesus and He opens a new world to you. God bless!

Salvation is accepting Jesus as your Lord and savior, Keep it by living for Christ.

By the grace of God we are saved, we can't earn it, by being "good"

You begin at John 17:3, by learning to know the only true God, and the one he sent, Jesus Christ.

Then, having learned (and continuing to learn) about God, his Son, and the requirements as set forth in the Bible, one must excercise faith a living faith in Jesus. (John 3:16, 36)

We must be obedient to Jehovah and to his Son. - Hebrews 5:9.

We must follow the example Jesus set for us. - 2 Peter 2:21; John 13:15.

Our faith must be a real, living faith, one which is shown by our actions, as explained in James 2:14-26.

However, once having attained this saved condition, we must endure faithfully to the end of either our lives or of this system in order to be saved, according to Matthew 10:22 and 24:13.
