How do colleges calculate "college credit hours"? Does it only include class time with a prof?

I'm trying to assist my daughter who has done a lot of distance learning, to calculate her total earned credit hours.

Does anyone know the official method of calculating this?

Each university-level course is assigned a certain number of credit hours. This number is normally based directly on the number of hours spent each week in the classroom. (Hours spent doing class-related work are definitely not counted.)

If your daughter was enrolled in a reputable distance learning program (such as through a state university), then each of her courses was assigned a specific number of credit hours by the university. One cannot calculate these hours by oneself. All she need do is contact the registrar at the university and ask how many credit hours she has completed for each course she has taken.

    Best wishes to you both.

It depends from state to state. You are better off contacting the Higher Education office in your state to determine how many hours per course is considered a credit hour.
