Has anyone heard of the internet user's gasoline boycott?

I rec'd. an e-mail stating that on May 15, 2007, internet users are going to try to boycott any gasoline purchases in hopes of lowering gas prices by reducing 24 hr demand.

This is a response to Exxon/Mobil's posting of a 9 billion dollar profit for the first three months of 2007.

I have heard of it it was posted on a bulletin on my myspace.

    it read as follows

....in April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in protest of gas prices.

Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.

On May 15th 2007, all myspace members are to not go to a gas station in protest of high gas prices. Gas is now nearing or over $3.00 a gallon in most places.

There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the myspace network, and the average car takes about 20 to 30 dollars to fill up.

If all myspace members did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take $2,200,000,000.00 (that's BILLION) out of the oil companys pockets for just one day.

If you agree (which I cant see why you wouldnt) repost this bulletin repost it with

'Don't pump gas on May 15th'

may 15th is a tues fill up that fri and join the rest of us that are fed up with being taken advantage of

I saw a similar one last year. There is no way it would work. You gotta have gas and 24hrs. or even 72 hrs would'nt make a bit of difference.

its called a chain letter, no one ever boycotts gas and its never been substantiated that even a nation wide boycott for even one day could effect demand, ignore it, its spam.

Sounds like a great idea if you can get enough people it is a supply and demand market.
