Is this good weight gain?

I'm 17, 5 foot 6 1/2 and 140 pounds and a girl...I just feel weird because I have gained a lot of weight in the past year (35 pounds) and I don't think that's healthy and I can't figure out what's going on and my self-esteem is going out the window. I run a lot, I don't gorge on food or anything like that...I just can't figure out what's making me gain so much weight!!! I have always been underweight, not overweight...and I feel like I'm in the wrong body! Help!

Update:

To add to that, I have stretch marks...GROSS! Never had those before...will they go away if I lose weight? Could I still grow taller and that lead me to be a more "correct" weight. I forgot to mention that I have grown 3 inches as well as all this weight gain, but I don't think that that explains the weight gain...especially because when the weight gain started I was running 5 miles a day competitively...I'm still running, but not on a competitive level anymore, could that be the reason? When running season starts again will I begin to lose weight again? Will I ever have my old body back?? sooo confused!

It may have just been weight gain that was associated with puberty. I would go to a doctor just to check and make sure that is nothing that is serious. If you are eating properly and exercising then 35 pounds seems like a large amount of weight, but if you have been eating poorly (fast food, junk food, pop, candy, fried food, etc) then that will explain it.

I would check with a doctor though if you have been practicing healthy habits. 5'6 and 140 is on the heavier side.

Well according to weight charts you are at a perfect weight because of your height. Maybe all the "weight gain" is actually muscle.

    You are perfect....stop worrying....you are still growing...I'm 5'6 and 190! I wish I was 140.
