Best beach for kids near Anaheim/LA?
10 pts for best real answer!
My family is headed to Disneyland in June, want to spend a day or two at a beach that is clean, not scary, free (ideally). With plenty of parking, places to eat nearby, public bathrooms you aren't afraid to use. Is Long Beach a good choice? Someplace else you'd recommend?

Newport beach with it's long boardwalk along the beach and it's many shops has my vote. Many icee cream places, coffe shops, places to eat, shop, etc. The beach is clean, the waves are a lot of fun, and you're only 20-30 minutes from Disneyland.

Long Beach? NO!
Huntington Beach is MUCH better. Newport Beach is also an excellent choice, especially by the Balboa Pier. If you want a campfire to roast marshmallows and hot dogs, go to Bolsa Chica State Beach.
At the end of the HB Pier and Balboa Pier, there is a Ruby's Diner, which is a 50's retro diner with good food and EXCELLENT shakes.
Any beach you go to, you're most liketly going to have to pay to park.
Also, June weather is usually very cool at the beach, You get a lot of fog, which may last all day. Dress in layers and bring a sweater, even if it's sunny in Anaheim. And the water will be cold, too, probably about 60 degrees. But a day at the beach beats a day at work (or school) ANY time.

The closest beach to Anaheim is Huntington Beach. Further down PCH is Newport Beach and Balboa (Orange County). Further up PCH is Bolsa Chica, Sunset and Belmont Shores in Long Beach (LA County). Huntington Beach is the closest. There is a city and state beach. You pay for all-day parking in the lot. Long Beach has metered parking. There are food places, volleyball courts and a pier for fishing and walking. Jakes restaurant is located on the beach next to the pier. At the end of the pier, is Ruby's Diner. There is a take-out window or you can sit and eat inside. It is a 50's retro restaurant and it is surrounded by a huge glass window. You see the water all around you. Cool!

Well wait a second if everyone says Huntington Beach then how will all these points be divided exactly and what do you do if the points don't come out to an even number....This reminds me of the time I did go to Ruby's on the pier with 5 girls and one had tuna salid but when it came time to pay the bill another only had the ceasar salid...well nevermind....I think you really get the point...They have cool events in Huntington Beach all summer long so check their web site for the days
you will be here..Have Fun...

I have to pile on too. The absolutely, positively "BEST" beach is Huntington Beach. Hundreds of thousands of dollars was spent by Orange County to make Huntington Beach every thing you asked about.
It is clean, safe, well maintained, lots of close by shops and restaurants, the BEST surf if you want to rent a board and try your luck, fire pits (first come, first served), sport fishing. large municipal parking lot. Hours of operation is 7:00am to 10:00pm. Truthfully though, any beach in Orange county is great.
Most of the actual beach area in Long Beach has residential housing across the street from it, except the area from Balboa Island to the Orange County line. Welcome to Southern California, enjoy your stay.
