Unless you plan on having your dog always go in a box, then it's a huge mistake and waste of time. Just potty train the dog to go outside like he should and skip puppy pads, paper training and litter boxes. Do yourself and your dog a favor and do it right the first time.

I wouldn't recommend it. Not only would it be incredibly difficult, it would be tough on the dog. Dogs never used kitty litter out in the wild. They were born to go outside and do what they need to do, not do it in litter trays. I have three cats who use litter trays inside and it smells after 2 days if I don't clean it every day. I know I wouldn't want to deal with the terrible smell of dog poop in my home, with or without the cats. Why can't you take the pup outside? Just take him outside and do it properly; don't be lazy.

Yes, if you train them that way. Puppy pads are easier since they have enzymes in them that say "do it here". Kittens are trained by their mothers to use the litter and otherwise they figure it out quicly. Dogs aren't as fast to use a litter, but it does work. Might as well just train them to go outside. Same amount of work.

yes, i have 2 small dogs that are both litter box trained. i dont like the actual litter though because its too messy, i put pupppy pads in the box. btw one of my dogs is female, the other male and they both use it. my boy doesnt lift his leg but if they do i read that someone fixed that problem by taking an empty bottle (like a bleach bottle, cleaned out very well) and wrapping a puppy pad around it and placing it in the litter pan, then the dog lifts his leg on the bottle but in the pan.

It will work for female puppies of toy breeds. Here are detailed lessons> http://www.kturby.com/litter/litter.htm
this is helpful for people with disabilities. However, puppies need the socialization and exercise of going outside for walks as much as possible,
