Should I move back to Scottsdale, Arizona?

I really need help with this problem...my husband and I used to lived in Scottsdale, Arizona when we were first married. That was 10 years ago. We lived there for a couple of years and then decided to move back home to Pennsylvania-along the shores of Lake Erie. We have been here for about 8 years and are growing weary of it. Basically, although it is pretty here, there isn't a lot of opportunity for anything.

We have been talking and are considering moving back to Phoenix/Scottsdale area with our two children. I am nervous though. My husband is able to be transferred there-that's not the problem. I am nervous about the crime that seems to be rampant. How bad has it gotten? Would this be a smart move? We have no problem living outside of Phoenix and have considered the Fountain HIlls area. Does anyone have any suggestions concerning this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I live in Paradise Valley, and it's relatively quiet here as far as crime. The crime problem is big in Glendale, Chandler and inner Phoenix. I moved here from Ohio, along the lake as well, for the same reason, no jobs. There is a lot of opportunity here. Come back for a visit and see if you like it still.

I would think hard before moving. You might consider taking a trip out to visit because it has changed so much in the last ten years. When looking for a good area to live in remember you can always contact the local police department to the area you wish to live and request area crime statistics to compare to. Be sure and realize housing is about 2-4 times the cost it was ten years ago. The Valley is not the same place you left with thousands of people moving here every single month.

Tempe Tempe Tempe! I live in the Surprise area, but have friens in both Scottsdale and Tempe. There are a few nice things in Scottsdale, but there's a reason we call it "Snotsdale". If you aren't rich and taken care of by your parents while you go out and party pseudosophisticatedly with people busy also faking being sophisticated then you won't fit in. Tempe is a University town. They have TONS of things built around people between age 18 and 26 years old, and tons that can be appreciated by all ages. I have hardly any money and am willing to spend all of it on gas sometimes just to go to Tempe and watch street performers and lurk in the shops. It's fun, it's nice, and the people are friendly. I'm 22, so if you need any more info on where people our age hang out, let me know. My profile allows for email an IM.

The crime is worse on the east side with the growth of Mesa, Gilbert and Chandler.

Stick to Scottsdale, Cave Creek, North Phoenix, Tatum area north of Bell Road and you should be fine.

Hey I live in Arizona. The crime is bad here...not exactly where I live but over in Pheonix and Scottsdale. I would say stay in Pennsylvania. You dont want to be here...its getting worse and worse.

It is great here, there is crime everywhere. Fountain hills is great but it is very expensive now. Just know that it is crowded and still hot! (haha)
