I really think this site has contributed to the destruction of the English language.?

I've never seen so many run on sentences, improper punctuations, etc, as I have from people asking questions on here. Are people really that stupid?

I agree with all the answerers. Check your own statement for errors before you lambast other users for contributing to the deterioration of the English language as you so put it my friend. As people often say, "Make sure your backyard is s@h@i@tless before you take notice of s@h@i@t in someone else's backyard" ^_^.

    Hey, what do you know?

People aren't that stupid in Yahoo! Answers after all; but are in fact only considerate as to overlook "innocent" errors made by some people. Of course in this case, not when it comes to eagle-eyed you though...

I completely agree! i can, to a undeniable degree, positioned up with undesirable spelling. those persons who dont regard English as a familiar language even have my sympathy. think of of words like 'bow' - the front of a deliver or boat and 'bough' - the limb of a tree; how complicated ought to that be? yet.....in case you have been stated and taught the English language out of your adolescence use it because it replaced into meant. Or a minimum of make the attempt. Oh via how if there are any spelling or grammatical blunders I appologise. Even I make blunders.

Good example of improper punctuation is your .? So you are contributing to the "destruction" of the English language as well.

The problem with the English is that too many people speak it these days, and most of these people did not have a chance to perfect it. So, it is English Global, rather than English Pure. But other languages are changing rapidly as well, as the speed of communication increases and its quality decreases.

Well, let's have a look at your wonderful contribution shall we? Now, if I really gave as much of a sh*t as you do about this matter, then I would point out that you can't put "etc." (which requires a period by the way), after only two listed items. The minimum is three! And, I would also state that question marks are not used for affirmative statements such as your first line. Does that make you stupid? No. Hopefully you realize that Y!A is for leisure...not academia! RELAX! And don't call people stupid just because they can't punctuate to your satisfaction. Believe me, it would take a lot more than missed punctuation and run-ons to destroy the English language (obviously you have not read James Joyce or Virginia Wolf - two tenets of English literature who didn't think much of commas, periods, semi-colons, etc.). By the way, did you notice how I used "etc." there? :) Okay buddy...now leave this topic alone.

Any type of computer message board is bound to be full of typos. Most people just blurt out their answer as fast as they can, and don't bother to check their spelling. Perhaps they're lazy, and maybe they just don't care.

Wow! Did you actually take a second to look at your sentence?

First of all, if you start the sentence with "I think", then you do not end the sentence with a question mark. ("Do you think..." should be used instead).

If you end a sentence with a question mark, then you don't need a period.

In addition, is "on" the proper preposition?

Hey, English is not my first language! But now that you mention it, as I'm reading through Yahoo answers, I see it everywhere!

    People using:

    "n i want 2 say it cuz..."

This may be part of the "text message culture", and yahoo answers is an informal medium. Just try to see the "message", I guess!

Well, The proverbial "cat is out of the bag" at this point no?

Is it not true that people learn by practice and example? hmm...

You've had some interesting comments - least of all from LAJOIE who is full of bull. Pay little attention to her Phonetics or you'll be looking for a job soon.

Your question is perfectly relevant. There are ways and ways to check what you are writing - its not a question of "can't be bothered", it's more a quest of "What's the Check Spelling button for??"

Give you a star for the quest. Let the 'literate-***-lesser gifted academics here, to wonder what the Star means, huh?

It's the lack of literacy, education and reading.

    Why do you care?

I think you should stop trying to fix people's punctuation and grammar errors, and try to be a little modest.

    English is my third language.
