Can I Teach?
I have two questions: Question 1 is even though my degree will not be in education, if I still take the Praxis to be certified can I still teach? Question 2 is that I have taken a lot of biology classes ( 4 classes away from graduating) but I changed my major( a long story), but I do enjoy Biology. Even though my degree will not be in Biology, if I still take the Praxis would I be able to teach Biology? (If the score that I receive is passing?)

From what I understand all you need is a degree and pass the praxis and you can teach. As far as a specialty that you want to teach (Biology) that would depend on the district whether or not they would allow you to teach without the degree in that specialty. They may have you on a contract that would give you a couple of years to get the degree, but the contract more than likely would be non-renewable. Check your praxis testing facility, they can give you all the info you need. You may be able to take the praxis along with the specialty test and then you're in. Good luck

Even with a Bachelor's and passing the praxis, most states require courses in education techniques. I know this is hard to believe, but teaching is not standing up and telling kids what you know. You need to motivate them, control behavior, assess their learning across the different intelligences, and many other things all at once. Check with your state department of education, they will have the requirements.

It matters what state you're in. In my state, I know that if you get certified in one field, and then pass the Praxis for another subject you can get certified in the second field. I think most states have an alternate program that allows anyone with a bachelor's degree to earn their teaching credentials while they actually teach in a classroom.

Not everybody can be a "teacher" they may have the "paper" that states that they "can"... but it take a certain kind of person to handle a classroom of children.. I'm not only talking about behavior problems, but social issues, learning disadvantages,, etc.
You certainly have to have the want, and "knack" for it. ..
good luck, the world needs more teachers.!
