How do we make full use of our lives on earth ?

Is it to live to our fullest by enjoying ourselves or living for others ? Is it the 'Just do It' slogan or is it to 'die for others' ?

Every answer should begin -- For me -- since this is a reflection question revealing our own selfishness or selflessness. So, for me, making full use of my life on this earth involves following G-d's commandments, obeying Him, and loving Him. All other aspects of my life fall into place, if my desire is to please Him then I will not hurt those around me, nor will I do things that would embarrass Him.

In the same way, I show my love to my parents by being a daughter they would be proud of and by demonstrating my love for them in my actions of consideration and respect. If I live a life that is respectful and kind, then perhaps others will respond in the same manner. Replication of good qualities does happen just as bad manners can cause a reaction of increased evil. There must be a balance of good and the bad, we should all make an effort to increase the good, since the bad will always linger in the shadows ready to cause pain.

George Burns said it so well in "Oh G-d", to have great joy there must be great sorrow, everything must have an equal measure of action and reaction.

It's part of the human arrogance to think that we have a specific goal or reason to live for. This is influenced by myth, religion and education. If you want meaning in your life, create one. Life itself has no meaning.

The only way to make full use of our life on earth is to have children. The sole purpose of every living being on this planet is to survive, to procreate, to give our genes to the next generation.

And yes, some people think that life is more, that is has meaning. But all of these meanings are self created ones. That is perfectly all right to live by, but stating that life itself has any meaning besides the survival of your species is all together wrong.

We have to balanced. We each have to support ourselves so as not to be a burden on others. But we must leave time for worship and personal improvement physically, mentally and emotionally. We should devote some of our time talking to others about God and his good news. We also are responsible for our family's well being.

That is the key...to be balanced.
