My take on this dispute over "The Fight"?

I am a bit surprised by reading the takes on here. I am normally very impressed with the people who hang out on this Boxing section here on answers. There are generally a lot of great scenarios and opinions. I understand that nobody wanted Floyd to win. Nobody wants to see such a cocky fighter win such a big fight.

Problem is here: If anybody thought that Oscar would actually be able to catch up to Floyds speed you haven't watched enough of his past fights. Floyd is lightning fast. He fights often while backing up and his defense is often making you miss all together not blocking the punches. Oscar is a great boxer no doubt, and you couldn't ask for a nicer guy. He just doesn't have what it takes to beat Floyd. If he could get Floyd into a slugging match toe to toe then he could beat him, but he will never be able to do that.

Floyd has fought close to 40 fights and he always makes you fight his fight. That is why he is undefeated.

In a re-match Floyd wins again. Too Fast!

Definitely agree and for the life of me can't understand how anyone would see oscar as being the winner???????? yes oscar threw punches and maybe was never hurt, but when he was hit he was hit right on the money! clean fresh shots! this is boxing not a slug fest! oscar ducked his head and swung for glory! there was no technique or anything close to what floyd was doing which was showing how professional and gifted he really is. say what you want but floyd won this one, and would win if there was a rematch in a greater fashion!!!

I agree with your assessment and many other intelligent posters too. Mayweather is too fast and too good defensively for anyone at this point. One thing that upset me was how some people at the house where I watched the PPV were ripping on him for his comments on the UFC fighters (it was hype Floyd admitted to Marc Ratner of the UFC). If you think Floyd is cocky check out these UFC guys. These guys think they are God's answer to fighting.

Agreed. I've heard talk of a rematch and I see no reason why. Believe me I am not a fan of PBF, but you have to look at the way the fight unfolded. Mayweather was in control from about the third or fourth round on. How De La Hoya managed to convince one of the judges, based on his performance, to score the bout 115 - 113 in his favor in incomprehensible.

This is exactly why i posted the question about moving on. This fight has been in debate before May 5th and after. PBF won by SD. A boring split decision but he won and a rematch on PPV if it did happen would be a waste of time. I would waste money on it knowing how the first fight was. AMEN for your question!

I thought it was a pretty dull fight Mayweather is fast and expert in defense. De La Hoya is past his prime. You know, Mayweather vs Kostya Tszyu in his prime would have been exciting. Tszyu is an assassin. His shots have real power and you know a knockout is always a possibility, as when he fought Judah

I would have to agree, I rooted for De Lahoya but admit that Mayweather had a clear victory and probably would again. It does come down to his speed, I haven't seen too many fighters with the speed he has, he is not the greatest puncher and could learn from Oscar, but his speed was impressive.

bout time somebody finally knows what they are talkin bout on here! everybody says floyd was too scared thats y he was running round but ive been watchin floyd since i was a little kid thats how he fights! hes gonna tire u out and then put the speed of the gloves to the side of ur face to knock u out!!!

I admit I didn't watch previous fights but when he faced oscar, mayweather just wasn't lightning fast. He was boring. DLH was much more agressive. I want a rematch!

    exactly

i answered a question about who was going to win, and i said the same thing..........

hes just too fast.........for anybody........always has been......

he'll hit and move all night long.........thats all he does......

he doesnt care about the knockout just as long as he gets the decision

Source(s): which is smart............boring, but smart
