Should I take a Christology class?
What am I going to do? I'm confused between taking a class called "World Religions" which includes Buddhism, Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Vishnu or whatever, etc. and a class called "Christology" The problem with "Christology" is that nobody wants to sign up for it because of the recent controversy that the assistant professor got fired for saying offensive stuff
Christology: This course deals with the doctrine of Christ. Ancient and modern heresies concerning the person of Christ are discussed and refuted. The biblical teaching of the person and work of Christ are examined
World Religions: Major religions of mankind, their history and teachings: Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism, Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. Useful background: one course in philosophy.

Personally, I would take World Religions. Christology is the study of Jesus Christ and should tackle issues about how he is both human and divine, whether or not he had to die, how he understood his place, etc. etc. etc. Excellent stuff, but given the climate of the world today, I think it's more important to at least have a basic exposure to other religions.

Depends if you want a sampling of all religions or a focused look at Christ.
Looks like it will be discussing the tricky issues of who Christ was, i.e. God and man at the same time. Good for your mind's development thinking through the issues.
Pity they don't do things like Christ's ministry - wow, it would be great emulating that to some degree. He only used His authority as *a human being*, using the anointing of the Holy Spirit, in His healing ministry, i.e. christians can actual aim at His level.

Personally I would take world religions. I would rather educate myself on a wide range of belief systems. That's just me. I like as many perspectives as possible.

Sounds like a combination of christianity and scientology... so my initial reaction would be a 'no'.

What can we imply through Logos-Christology being the normal theology of the early Church? It turns out that God had already all set the Jews and the Greeks for the approaching of the Messiah through revealing to each organizations specific points of the operating of Deity. For illustration, one of the vital Greek philosophers ridiculed the notion of there being many gods, and believed in a one real God. Paul alludes to this on the Areopagus, while he says, "For in Him we are living and transfer and go out, as even a few of your possess poets have stated, 'For we're His youngsters.'" (Acts17:28) These early philosophers taught that the operating of the real God in production was once via what they termed the 'Logos.' In Hebraic theology the equal suggestion was once taught. The old Jews used the Hebrew time period 'Memra.' The instructing was once that the Logos/Memra was once each the Word of God and likewise God Himself. Later theologians started to talk of the Word of God as being 'God's different self.' The factor is that Logos theology was once already reward within the Roman/Grecian global while Christ got here. This was once all in instruction for the gospel. So while John starts his gospel, we listen an enchantment to each the Greek and Hebrew peoples. He says, "In the establishing was once the Word, and the Word was once with God, and the Word was once God." (John one million:one million) John did not need to do provide an explanation for the time period 'Logos.' When he stated, "And the Word grew to be flesh, and dwelt amongst us," individuals could have understood that John was once calling Jesus the Logos/Memra. When John stated, "And we noticed His glory," the Hebrews could have specifically picked up in this. To them the 'Glory' had a designated regard to each the Memra and the Messiah. The ancients noticed the Messiah in the whole lot. To shore that is allow me reference one creator you're most probably aware of. In the writings of Philo, you listen one of the vital equal language that was once utilized by John and Paul. And you probably have any of the early Judaic writings, you listen the equal language, however in Jewish expressions. Why is that this? Again we're handling idea types that had been reward within the Grecian and Hebraic global for the period of the days of the apostles. Philo was once a Grecian Jew who lived in Alexandria, Egypt. (20 bc to advert 50) He was once a cutting-edge of Jesus and the apostles. Being a Hellenistic Jew, his writings mirrored Hellenistic Judaism. So in studying Philo, you listen idea types similar to the apostolic writings. The New Testament writings belonged to a interval of time in which the social material of the Roman global was once was once nonetheless Hellenistic. What does all this need to do with us? It can do so much in serving to us get again to Biblical Christianity. The religion of the early Church rested fully upon the writings of the apostles and prophets. Both those organizations of God's servants in most cases noted God's Word as greater than the written Word. For illustration, in Hebrews four:12, we listen, "For the phrase [Logos] of God is dwelling and lively and sharper than any 2-edged sword, and piercing so far as the department of soul and spirit, of each joints and marrow, and competent to pass judgement on the ideas and intentions of the center." Then it is going on to mention that the Logos is our excellent top priest, "Who has handed via the heavens." (Verse 14) Peter stated, "For you've got been born once more now not of seed that is perishable however imperishable, that's, via the dwelling and enduring phrase [Logos] of God." (1Pet1:23) Our drawback is in seeking to take the thriller out of the whole lot. And but with regards to the matters of God, we must have a good time over specific mysteries that are not able to be comprehended with the brain. Our pleasure comes from an know-how of the center. There is a lot more to be stated, and I wish we do not bathroom down within the Nicean interval. But I'll depart off for now. Is Logos-Christology essentially the most normal type of theology? Can you suppose of Scriptures that make bigger experience with this early Church theology within the historical past, than they do through different factors. Bless you within the identify of Jesus!
