Get a top secret clearance, then ask some general buddy of yours to disclose that info.........lol......my hubby didn't know how many planes were around when he did his thing in Iraq, why do you need to know, to write a book about not even being there????
The funny part is you are still going to write a book, but make up whatever you don't know, then sell it for millions and call yourself a war hero at the same time.....very funny to the not millions who see you as fake........

Actually that's "secret" level classification, not "top secret." Also I think that'd be pretty interesting to find out. I'm Air Force and we fueled a hell of a lot of Navy Aircraft coming off of those Carriers.
I doubt we'll find the answer on the Internet.

OK, I hate to give you a round about number but according to NAVY.Com there are over 4000+ aircraft serving in the US Navy. I looked for the US Air Force and couldn't find a number. This is not Classified information since I looked it up on an unclassifed public website and it does not list specifics.

Isn't that classified information??
(hint: the Army, Navy, and Air Force work together)
Question: How many ships do the Navy vs Marines have?

start here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_aircraft
follow the links to say fighter aircraft - pick an aircraft - go to it - the site will give you "number built" usually in the list on the right - add as you go along - it is a fair amount of work but will give you very close data.
