As we gain more freedoms ourselves, do we become more fearful of others' freedoms?

If so, are we ceding more power to the State to monitor every action of every citizen in order to protect freedoms from being abused?

And is all this the kind of freedoms we want, or need?

This happens because the social theories that serve as a foundation for the conception of freedom offered by modernity are mostly antagonistic. Therefore our sense of what freedom is, is always about rescuing our sense of self from the perceived threat of some real or imagined oppressor. Freedom in terms of modernity is underdefined in its positive value and in what it is meant for. The paradox then becomes that we are willing to cede more and more of our "freedom" to some kind of power, like a government, cultural expression, or ideology, in order to preserve the "rights" we believe to be inherent in that freedom. As a result, we lose the very thing that we are trying to protect.

This is exactly what is happening in State Vs. Citizen case . Regulator becomes the abuser of the power and what happens is that the weaker section of society( having no such powers ) becomes the the objects abused at the hands of the very people whom they trusted with protection of all freedom.

However in the current situation where the entire Nations are going under civil turmoils internally and externally , a harsh step at stricter regulation is required to stop anarchy from setting its foot in. Let's us all actually act to uphold the moral freedom right of others . You and me can make a beginning

True Freedom or free will is one that has no restrictions on what you do...this is not the case in the U.S.... Our Freedoms come with responsibilities that are set by laws. What you need to be afraid of is the lawless people who take the definition of freedom & free will to its extreme.... the one with no restrictions.

There are those who would argue that we have less freedoms these days. Nonetheless, I think the basic issue here is that we argue that we have 'rights' to certain 'freedoms' but fail to recognise that with those rights come responsibilities. It is our failure to live up to those responsibilities that create a lot of b*llshit like conspiracy theories and cover ups.

to be able to recognize one's freedom is to recognize other people's freedom too. man is basically free but the sense of dignity is also inherent to his being. that is, by his rational and moral aspects there is a specific boundary between right and wrong to every decision that he makes
