Does yesterday's stoppage of a terrorist attack, prove the Patriot Act is effective?

Would the attack have been thwarted anyway?

Who knows. What I do like is that now they are deemed terrorist, they will get first class accommodations in our Caribbean facility at club GITMO. Have a nice trip boys.

The attack would have been thwarted anyway. The FBI would have done what they did with or without the so called Patriot act. They were alerted to the video of the six men and the FBI set things up and got them as they should have and have been doing well before the so called Patriot act was a glimmer in the neocon eye.

No. Why did it take from Jan 2006 until May 2007 for an arrest if the Patriot Act was in play. They could have been picked up as soon as the store clerk reported them without being charged, and held for an indefinite period of time. Does it take 1 year and 4+ months to use the Patriot Act to arrest suspected terrorists?

Patriotic Act had nothing to do with the fact an attack was stopped. It was an alert clerk and stupid terrorists. The terrorists pretty much busted themselves by filming the preparation for the attack.

Not really. The Patriot Act did not pick up these people on its radar, the clerk notified authorities of these individuals. Patriot Act or otherwise, at that point they had what they needed to legally wiretap these 6 individuals, if they even did so.

Good question. I agree to the first answer. No - this proves that the Patriot Act is redundant and unnecessary. A true patriot will do his/her job anyway to protect the country. The Patriot Act doesn't make lazy irresponsible people become patriots - it just makes law abiding people angry for invading their privacy.

it would have been thwarted anyway. we've had the visa law since the 70s and its worked fine.

although these men were terrorists they left their camp the lowest in their class- they were stupid enough to pick somewhere with massive security and they made a practice tape. a 12 year old would have noticed something strange going on with these men

The Patriot Act certainly had nothing to do with the foiled plan, but the word patriot is certainly an adjective for the clerk who was alert enough to notify authorities.

It was the store clerk at the video/dvd shop that alerted the FBI. It had nothing to do with the Patriot Act.

Only in that a patriot acted.

LOL what a question.... as far as i understand it no wiretapping or listening in on cell phone calls or even scanning your personal emails had anything at all to do with it! a bright American Common person caught them! so No to the first part of your question and Yes to the second
