Start with equal parts red and yellow, then add some blue a little at a time. The more blue you add the darker it will get.

..depending on the shade of brown you want...start with red and yellow, which will give you a nice orange. mix in blue, a little at a time...you can keep adding colors to achieve the particular brown you want.
A good rule of thumb is to remember that if the color are on the opposite sides of a color wheel, they'll mix together to make some sort of brown.

Two complementry colours (red and green in this case) will make brown. Complementry colours are colours opposite each other on the colour wheel. Without a colour wheelo you can work out what a primary colours complimenty colour is by looking at the other two primary colours and mixing them together. So blue and yellow make green so red's opposite (complimentry) colour is green. (the primary colours are red, blue and yellow, all the other colours in the world except black and white can be made from combinations of these.)

A brown is just a mix of a bunch of colors... Just slowly add a little of each, and you should end up with a brown

brown is made when you combine any three primary colors. we all know blue and yellow make green, yellow and red make orange, and blue and red make purple, but when you combine all three it makes brown.
