Go through with two weeks notice after this...?

I told my current company two weeks ago that I would be leaving within a month because of the ridiculous commute I had (two hours each way) and wanted to give them time to find a new person as 4 other people had left my department of 16 in the last month. This Monday, I told them my last day would be May 21st and shared where I would be going. The next thing I knew, the executive administrative assistants were warning me that the CEO was on the phone with our broker at my new firm as well as the HR department there. Then he, the CEO, said in a public area that I must have gotten the job because I "misrepresented" myself and didn't put my current company on my resume (he claims they would have told him in advance if they knew). Yesterday, they confronted me with a copy of my resume they had gotten, accusing me of not telling them I went through a recruiting firm. My question now is, do I now have the right to renege on the two weeks notice I gave under the circumstances?

There is a reason why four people have left your department out of sixteen in the last month and it probably has to do with a hostile work environment. The CEO sounds like a real winner and the fact that he was calling the broker at your new firm sounds really underhanded. What I want to know is why and how they managed to get a copy of your resume and why is this any of their business?! Furthermore, who cares if you went through a recruiting firm. Do you remember signing anything when you were first employed about not working in a similar type job (like brokerage firms will say you agree to not to switch to our competition for a certain amount of months when you leave or are fired)? Maybe that's one of the reasons why people are acting the way that they are or they could just be a bunch of jerks. You can either talk with the HR department at your company (not that they will have any power since it seems that your CEO is the one wielding a huge bat) and see what can be done about your current situation. If things keep going downhill until you leave, I would write a letter and give it to the HR department stating that you will be leaving immediately due to current hostile work environment (that's a word that no company likes to hear because it usually means lawsuit). Also, document the heck out of everything that has occurred so far in case if you need it or if someone ends up suing the company.

Make sure that your new position is not in jeopardy. Call them, maybe you can move sooner. Then leave. Walk out, no more notice. Do not go back and make sure all of your belongings are with you. With a situation like this, any misstep will ensure that they will fire you on the spot. Since they know where you are going my guess is that your removal will slip into a conversation somewhere. At this point you want the upper hand and need to take steps to make sure that you are not out of both positions.

Never tell a former employer where you are going. Be as quite about this as possible. It is none of their business.

Call your new job and see if you can't start early. Then change your notice to your last day being tomorrow. There is no reason your CEO should be harassing you like that. If you really wanted to shake him up, call a lawyer. He's not telling the truth.

Although, I must warn you. If your new company is willing to send your private information to your company, you may want to keep your resume fresh just in case.

You are not obligated to stay at your current company if you do not wish to. In terms, the papers (most employers will state this) says that either YOU or the COMPANY may terminate the position when you see fit (not exactly phrase like this) or when you both see that it's not working out.

There is a reason why those who quit has already quit. If I were you, I would of left on the spot.

You can just leave today if both you & the company agree to it but it doesn't seem like they even appreciate you giving the 2 weeks notice. It's seems there's a miscommunication somewhere between you & the company. I suggest you call a meeting with them to explain again. If worse comes to worse & they start arguing again, then just tell them you will be leaving today. If they are going to bad mouth you, then you shouldn't use them as a reference. You don't have to. Also, the reason why your leaving is none of the companies business. They have no right to badger you about it.

thanks for ur advice to my question. Well I see it this way now its there loss and maybe some better job out there is waiting for me.

You should of never told them where ur going...which company u be working for...never do that again...I remember I told my previous employer that i'm leaving and gave 2 week notice but i never told him where i was going...but other people in that company tell me that he says bad things about me since I decide to leave.

As far as him go if I were u start ur new job early and tell them if they don't leave u alone u may seek a lawayer and file a case

No criminal recourse. Florida is an employed at will state. so they are in a position to fireside you any time. once you have resigned in spite of a word you have nevertheless resigned. you have willfully provide up, your grant of two weeks is on the employers discretion to settle for or carry you to.

Legally you don't have to give any notice. If it was me and they treated me like that I would just walk out.
