My monitor is giving me a message that says "primary hard disk fail".?

Is it fixable, or do I need to buy a new one. I tried using the recovery disks, but then it says "No hard disk found, system recovery cannot be continued"

Update:

You guys are so quick with the answers. You just confirmed my fears. This will be a learning experience for me. I want to try to install hard drive myself.

First hing to do is stop trying to use it. Your drive has definitely failed and most likely can not be fixed.

However, there is a chance that some of your data - pictures, mucis, Word docs, etc. can be retrieved. To do this, you will need data recovery software and someone who has a bit of technical experience - know any 10 year olds in your neighborhood ;-)?

Seriously, it is not that hard, but you need a general understanding of how data recovery works. You may be able to find a shop around that can do it, but will most likely be expensive.

Other than that, you are SOL and consider anything on that hard drive lost forever. If under warranty, call you computer manufacturer and ask for an RMA and have then send a new drive.

If not, that same 10 year old will be able to help you put the new drive in. Or Google how to install a new drive and you are all set - (there is a simple setup sheet that comes with new drives, but you still need to know how to open your case, set the jumpers on the drive and seat the drive correctly).

You could possibly need a new hard drive. If your computer is not that old, it could still be under warranty. I am sure the hard drive has failed and you will need a new one.
