Eat and Eat and Eat?

When I eat, I know I am satisfied but I want more and more. I was able to fit into my jeans but now I am not and when I have food in front of me I eat constantly. I just mindlessly consume food no matter what mood I'm in or whatever. I think something is wrong with me. How can I stop the urge to eat constantly and how can I suppress my appetite?

Are you purging the food that your eat? If so, that's why you constantly think about food. It's a obsession. You have the break the obsession. If not, then your body could be deficient in certain vitamins. If you a teenager or pre-teen you could be going through a growth spurt. Everytime my daughter whose 5 goes through a growth spurt she eats all the time, then when it's gone, she goes back to normal. It's her body needing more nutrients to develop the way it needs to.

So analyze what's going on with your body. Take your vitamins, a multi-B vitamin as well (that can help depression, you could be depressed and not know it), Start reading/exercising/doing a craft or hobbie like painting or drawing/clean,etc....to get your mind off being bored and food.

Also make a list of the foods one day that you eat, eat anything that you want just for that day and make a list of what and how much you eat.....analyze what your eating, is it healthy? how many nutrients; vitamins & minerals is your body getting from the food? if its mostly junk food, especially sugar (then you have your answer, sugar will make you hungry, you get a sugar high/then sugar crash/then your body craves more food to perk up.....)....cut back on sugar/caffeine/fried foods pick healthier choices even if you don't want them, eat them any way, go for water instead of other drink (even if you don't want them, make yourself drink it) believe it or not if you make yourself do it, after a couple of days you will automatically make those choices....and like them. You have to retrain your taste buds.

And remember to take a multi-vitamin/mineral supplement with a multi-B vitamin every day before bedtime (vitamins can make you hungry, believe it or not) so therefore is the need to take them before bed......

I saw the other answers and i just had to say something. I too eat too frequently and have said to myself countless times that i will just eat less tomorow and so on. I actually strated eating less eventually, but i still go off the bandwagon too often and just binge. I am in good shape only because i started to excercize, ALOT. My solution is to try and drink more water when you are hungry, and instead go excercizing. (SOMETHING I SHOULD MENTION ABOUT WATER: don't drink too too much before you go excercizing, because that can flush electrolytes out, drink a glass or two along with some fruit, that way you keep your vitamins and etc up. Run, swim, bike. Just know that you are not alone, and that there are people, like me, out there who know what you are going through and would love to support you in any way they can. Pick up a new hobby, not drinking lol. OYu like movies? How about watch a movie without eating when you are hungry, that way you will start to condition yourself to being inactive and not eating. GO for walks at the park. Also, very important, something that has WORKED for me, when nothing else has: Eat lots of meals, every few hours, but take very small portions, such as an apple, potatoe, or a few strawberries. DOn't deprive yourself, but eat small portions throughout the day.

It would be nice if addictions were as easy as saying to yourself to stop. If you still NEED to eat grab a apple or some other fruit. Celery is good. Even with Peanut Butter. Try chewing gum. Sometimes even chewing a peice of gum will trick you into thinking you are eating. Or you try what i do, instead of eating a big meal, break it down into a few meals. I eat 5 - 6 times a day. But never more than a handful of food. When i get a craving for something big i just grab fruit. You can never eat too much fruit... Well i guess you could, but it might not be a bad thing!

You are likely someone of a generally compulsive nature, maybe even prone to addiction to different things. Maybe you eat from boredom, I know I do. I am in need of something to do and I have to sit at work all day so I eat and eat and eat. Don't get me wrong, it is truly something I enjoy as well, not just a problem but the best thing to do is try to quit sugar completely and try to find something to do anytime you want to eat. If you must be sitting find something to occupy your hands, if you are free to do whatever then go for a walk when you want to eat. I say quit sugar because it causes more cravings than eating protein. Protein will satisfy for a while but the more sugar and starch you eat the more you want to eat.

Go and speak with a doctor, you may have an underlying medical condition which is causing you to overeat. If you need to take an appetitie suppressant, they can prescribe one properly, don't take just any over the counter drug.

Is it linked to your emotions? Try to write down how you are feeling when you eat, you might find it is particularly bad when you are stressed, upset etc.

A lot of things can trigger overeating, but you have made a good first step in identifying you have an issue with food and putting it out there, not keeping it bottled up.

I wish you all the best of luck to overcome this. Stay positive!!

you need to put more thought into what you are thinking/doing/feeling when you have food in front of you. stop letting yourself be a mindless drone around food! as soon as you know you are satisfied remove yourself from the area where to food is or tell the waitress to take it away immediately. pay attention to ever time you lift you hand to your mouth. a super great appetite supresser is water. get a nalgene bottle and keep it with you at all times. chug a half liter before you eat anything and you will feel fuller faster. then when you feel the urge to continue eating even after you are full chug another 300-500mL. the most important thing to do is to seperate yourself from the food area the instant you feel full.

I have this same problem and have had it before in my life and gotten over it...my cause for it is supressed feelings of depression and boredom. (I think...) Something happened in my life that changed my daily routine and I stopped before but, now...I stopped smoking last September and ever since then, have been on an eating binge...try chewing gum or just keep yourself occupied. Do housework, get out of the house and do something in the yard or go for a walk. Go to the mall. Go to a friends house. Not sure...good luck to you!! I have to go get something to eat...

You have to take control; I used to be the same way. You can't just give up and say, "Oh well, I've already eaten too much, so I might as well eat more." It's just like any other addiction, and probably means you're trying to fill (with food) a void that can't be filled that way. I just tell myself that nothing tastes as good as thin feels.

i would try and find something else that you like.. just remember that your stomach will stretch out and let you think that you 'need' more food because it is bigger--when you really wont need anymore food then you use too..

be careful how large you let your tummy grow.. it is much harder to shrink then to grow

--hope that was the answer that you were looking for!!
