Anyone with side effects from Bactrim/Septra etc?

My 16 yr old is having ractions to this drug....I want to hear your stories, treatments, etc.

Update:

Thank you for answers so far... Dr. has been contacted and I am monitoring her now. We had no idea she was allergic to sulfa-as a matter of fact she took a full 7 day course of this just a few weeks ago, with no reactions at all. We have taken her off...she only took 2 doses so hopefully we have forgone long term effects I have been reading about.

    bactrim is a sulfa drug and a lot of people (including me) are allergic to sulfa drugs. first off she should immediately stop taking the medicine and if this medicine was prescribe to her by the doctor you should call them and let them know she is allergic.....also since she is having reactions u should watch her and make sure shes ok cause some of them can be pretty serious.

    you can also check out the info below and this website.....it has comments from people who have taken the drug and seems like it would be helpful.

    What are the possible side effects of Bactrim?

    • Stop taking Bactrim and seek emergency medical attention if you experience any of the following serious side effects:

    · an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives);

    · unusual bleeding or bruising; or

    · yellow skin or eyes.

    • Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue to take your medication and talk to your doctor if you experience

    · headache, fatigue, or dizziness;

    · nausea, vomiting, decreased appetite, or diarrhea;

    · weakness; or

    · increased sensitivity to the sun.

    • Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome

    I had a rash and was diagnosed as allergic to sulfa drugs. Cannot take them anymore. Later I also developed an allergy to penicillin. Both can be dangerous. What reaction is your child having? If it is a rash I'd advise stopping the drug now and calling your physician ASAP.
