Blue Raspberry is now described as a tangy & sour flavour for syrups, candies, and other food items that often has blue food dye. The blue raspberry flavor, originally derived from blue whitebark raspberry fruit juice, it was created by Herrmann Schmidt from Chicago in 1943, when supply of fresh blue raspberries from Oregon was restricted by war transport problems. It is now used in flavorings with the blue dye to help differentiate it from strawberry flavors.

Because that's what the manufacturer decided. Put blue color into a drink and call it raspberry.

Are you fighting the system Jennifer?

THEY said it was raspberry and you are arguing with them?

How dare you question the system Jennifer. I'm going to have to report you to the FDA now. You'll have to sign an agreement that you WILL agree that blue means raspberry and stop fighting Big Brother.

Red is already taken by cherry and pink is taken by strawberry, and that color blue was available. It just a way of telling flavors by sight.

Okay, I did a thorough internet search and what I was able to ascertain is this: it was started by the Southland corp. in the1980's as a Slurpee flavor sold at 7-11 stores and from there the popularity grew.

I think that was inspired by the "blue raspberry" craze of the 90s.

    Blue raspberry

Maybe because red, pink, purple, and pinkish red are already taken by cherry, watermelon, grape, and strawberry. They probably think we cant handle a double flavor color.

It might be because blue is pretty much the only color left to choose from.

Usually when it colored blue it means that the drink is BLUE RASPBERRY flavored. So I would assume they make it blue to match the name

Because cherry and strawberry already had the market cornered on red.
