Contractions?

Okay, so Im due tomorrow..had a membrane sweep yesterday. Have been miserable all day today, keep having the painless contractions with hot flashes, I know that the painless ones make you dilate because Im at 3, should I start keeping track of these now or wait to see if pain kicks in ? My water hasnt broken but I have been told not to rely on that.

There is no such thing as a typical labour, however generally if the contractions become progressively closer together and last for longer,I would suggest you are in established labour. If you feel at all uneasy go to the hospital to be checked. You mention that your waters havent broken. If you wash your hands thoroughly and maybe use a disposable latex or silicone glove you might be able to gently insert a couple of fingers and carefully feel how many cm's you have dilated. If your'e well advanced it should be easy to reach far enough to feel your cervix,as the baby will have fully descended into the pelvis.Be very gently- don't poke, just feel with the tips of your fingers.I did this and I was reassured that I was progressing and it gave me some peace of mind. With all my pregnancies my waters did not break until artificially ruptured as the baby was coming out.

When real labor hits, you know. The contractions get increasingly stronger, and you feel an immediacy to things. If you notice they are getting close together, keep track. Don't count on your water breaking, though. Mine didn't either time. I know everyone says you will know when it is real labor, but it is true.

    Good luck!

    And Happy Mother's Day!
