What about the May 15 Gas Protest?

What is happening on May 15? I hear there is supposed to be a gas-out day, but I have also heard something about pickets outside major gas stations throughout the day as well. Are people considering this?

Postage is going up because it takes gas to deliver mail... Its all connected.

I am not sure the gas out will hurt them financially since we will buy the gas anyway. However, buying alternative fuel cars and or using alternate transportation would definately do the trick. If there was a way we could have alternate transportation day and all go to work in our neighbors natural gas or electric car, or ride the bus, train or light rail....

Then it would definately make a difference. I think those who can do that on Tuesday, should. At least we could rest in the idea we may also be protecting the environment.

Hello, I think it is a great idea. The only fact that bothers me is that there are ordinary people would own the individual gas stations and so this affects them as this is how they make their living. And, knowing someone who owns a station, I know that they do not make much $$ off of the gas, they make most of their $$ off of the other things that people buy. So...to be fair, it might be a good idea to stop buying gas on that day, but to continue to stop and buy other things in the gas store.

Yes, people are going to not buy gas on May 15th. To the comment about the owners of the store, they make no money off of gas, that is why it cost cost so much to purchase chips, soda and that glow pen they have on the counter. They make their money off of merchandise and food, not the gas. The price of gas is not in their control.

Second, as for the boycott on major gas companies, you may view this like any other major corporation. Boycott and refuse to buy and they will fall--right? Wrong, it is you who will fall--as in the American economy. It is the millions of Americans who invest in the corporations that will fall. The owners make off with the money. You loose your stock. Did you ever concider the fact of corporalism? People point the finger at corporations like Wal-Mart and Johnson & Johnson, but yet consumers still purchase the goods and services because of the price or advertising. It is you--us--that drive the need for capitalism, for we demand these goods and services to higher the standard of living. So, if the gas empire falls--which it will not, this boycott is not going to make a dent for rumors are allready known and gas is now up to 3.19+ to make up for the potential loss on May 15th, so this boycott--has not purpose and or effect---as I was saying, if the empire falls, the millions of Americans loose their money, then the economy will only be that of the depression. You know, history always repeats itself.

I am not for this, but i will make sure I don't buy gas on the 15th. I still think we all should just stop buying Exxon and Mobil, the largest ones, if they begin to fall, all will. Do you realise that postage goes up 2 cents the day before, the 14th?

I know some people are, but in the long run, one day isn't going to mean a hill of beans to gas companies. That is chump change for them.

If people got together and on a consistent basis, boycotted the top companies, then that has a better chance of working.

one day vs. every single day

which one sounds more likely to work?

I guess they are; I'm sure not going to buy gas that day. I haven't heard about protests/pickets, but it sounds good to me.

If the people of country would unite and stop buying gas from Exxon-Mobile(largest oil co.) we could start a gas war and drive prices back down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
