What's your opinion on installing gutter guards to keep out leaves?

We've got a wooded lot and had someone recommend gutter guards. If we don't install them, how often should the gutters be cleaned?

Thanks!

you probebly are going to want to clean it atleast 2 times a season depending on how much trees are arround but gutter guards are a great thing.

I have expanded grate style guards on my gutters. They work great for leaves but don't work too well on maple seeds. Those seeds get caught in the openings and eventually fall through, so I still have to clean the gutters - but not nearly as often as I would have to otherwise.

They are good in principle. Problem I have heard in other websites is the price. If you live in a cold winter climate, they can also freeze up and cause damming which is not good for the roof. Buy one of those hose extenders with a curved end and flush the gutters out a couple times a year.

The only trouble with gutter guards is when the asphalt shingles start loosing their grit and it builds up in the gutter. It is heavy and with the guard hard to wash out.

approximately 3 or 4 years in the past, I observed one that makes use of a rounded spillway the place there is in simple terms a small ~ a million/2" slot close to the outboard fringe of the gutter. Water flows off the roofing and onto the convex spillway the place it follows the curve down into the slot and into the biggest channel of the gutter. Being that the slot is in simple terms some million/2" extensive, purely small leaves and debris ought to get in, and those might often be sufficiently small that that they had be washed down the downspouts with out clogging.

If you have a lot of trees I would recommend cleaning them out every month during the fall season.

    In the Summer as needed.
