Dieting...what else can I do?

Ok, so like the majority of America...I am trying to lose weight. I've cut my calories to 1000-1200 a day. I go to Curves 5 times a week and push as hard as I can. On Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday (weather permitting), I take my dog for a 1.5 mile walk (along with going to Curves). On Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday I will walk the dog for a mile and then ride the exercise bike for at least 20 minutes. I also cut out bread, pasta, and potatoes and most sugar. Is there anything else I can do?

yes, you can start eating more...

what you are doing is crash dieting which makes you lose water weight and muscle not fat and also slows down metabolism

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.

eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)

5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day

    8 glasses of water

have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy

have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle

cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training

dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.

ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

20 minutes is techincally a warm up

walking the dog is not a freaking workout

and before you get all irritable, im not trying to put you down i just believe its common sense.

you wont burn any fat at all if you stop at 20 minutes and you'll burn very little by walking, assuming you still eat healthy

"pushing hard" for some athletes can mean more than 6 hours straight every single day.

honestly if you work out at a place like curves you are going to be instructed by people who are used to comforting fat women into paying dues and fees

go to a real gym where performance matters. nobody is gonna think any less of you when you are in a gym working out than they do of arnold schwarzenegger . everybody may seem that way but we all started out somewhere.

it is possible to completely transform your body very quickly but not before you transform this attitude that brought you to the point of feeling like 20 minutes in curves is actually a workout.

you see guys out sprinting in the rain... you see women on bikes in the middle of nowhere... they understand why its called "work"out

look at it scientifically... a bumpy road causes you to work much harder than a elliptical plus you cannot just hop off as soon as you want. the fans in the so called gyms keep your body cool and it doesnt need to work as hard at regulating its own temperature causing delayed fat burning.

discomfort is the first sign your body is going through something strenous enough to cause a change... the idea its going to be all easy and comfortable is a myth and designed to lose your money... not your belly

get into some soccer with girls that are serious about athletics... and for crying out loud DO NOT workout at a place that caters to overweight women

    unless you wanna be one.

and what in the blue f*** do you mean weather permitting?? there is no reason you cant get a little wet or dirty

when it snows that means you are running instead of biking and if you must do it on a treadmill because cars spklash you and whatever then do an extra 10 minutes for making it too easy on yourself.

why do think athletes and armed service personnel have someone else telling them when and how to exercise.... because if they had a choice they'd head to curves and get...

    curves

You need grains. I honestly think that the calories thing is rather stupid. YOu need bread and you need meat and fruit and sugar. I suggest Getting low fat things. instead of a huge lunch or dinner eat a big breakfast. Oatmeal toast orange juice as many fruits as possible. Ohh and use ankle wieghts nifty little things... Sorry I am not much help but there is a suggestion for you

in case you choose extra 'sparkling and tidy' issues to do, then you definitely could desire to bathe different flooring, airborne dirt and dirt and varnish, sparkling homestead windows, have a metamorphosis around with furnishings, organize issues in yet in any different case, sort by way of your kitchen and so on Or something relaxing, flow out and save till you drop!

AWESOME job so far!! :) I wouldn't dip your caloric intake below 1200, though. Make sure you are getting enough veggies and fruits. Also, WATER. When it's hot out, your body tends to hold water, so be sure to drink extra on those hot days. Make sure you don't drink soda. Avoid salt, if possible. I'd say that you are on your way, though. :)

I do all that too and had a hard time loosing. You have to keep your heart rate up longer than 20 mintues for each activity. You don't start burning calories until that 20 minute mark to where you are burning fat. So you really do have to atleast double your time on the bike.

I dropped when I started using my stationary bike and playing xbox at the same time. I get so involved in the video game that Like an hour and half later...I am like WOW....12 miles!!!

It really works. I dropped 20 pounds on that alone.

I also went to my local drug store and did a colon fiber cleaning. Your intestines have alot of old rotten waste and you can tell espeically if you sweat and your sweat has a "food" smell of what you eat. You are sweating out whats rotting in your intestines. Its bacially just fiber tablets but you stay on it for approx 2 weeks and it cleans off the walls or your intestines and makes things flow smoother.

Sorta the same theory with drano and your kitchen sink pipes. When you eat alot of meat the diameter of your colon and intestines get more narrow and so things tend to stick to the walls...Like pipes in the kitchen..the more you stick down there..the more the drain will clog up from everything attatching to the walls of the drain pipe.

People who are in their mid 20's or higher can loose about 10 pounds alone on just cleaning out their system. From all the years of eating badly. It helps your colon, intestings, your digestive track, you sweat cleaner, it helps bad breath..because bad breath comes from your stomach and intestines so what is rotting also comes back up thru your air.

    Okay..Hope I didn't gross you out!!

Also, don't drink alcohol it dehyrates you and makes you eat junk so you'll end up taking in unwanted calories. And NO carbinated drinks...It just fills up your stomach with air and pushes your stomach forward. You can also loose one pant size just by letting all the air out of your stomach.

Oh by the way..after I did all this..I went from 168 to 127 and I am now a size 4 jeans.

ADDITION: I forgot to mention that I also have a calorie counter watch. You can pick one up at walmart for a low price. If you keep to 1,200 calories is good. You need to burn 3,500 to burn off one pound of fat. So add those up 3,500 plus 1,200..you will need to burn off in one day 4,700 calories to loose ONE pound. If you use the watch like I do, I wear it all day when I work out...I find that changing your thinking and getting away from the scale really helps. You find your self...clapping your hands, singing louder, chewing gum, walking up and down your hallways, and soo on to add extra numbers to your total.. Its really easy!! And I think it would help give you a better understanding of what it takes to burn off one pound.

    Good Luck!!

Congrats on all your activity! :-) In addition to yor calorie cutting, cut your salt intake ( as long as you don't have a health condition that dictates that you need more salt). You'll be amazed at how much that helps!

Drink plenty of water, and keep up what you are doing. It sounds like you are doing well. Just don't reward yourself with food. Find another way of rewarding yourself.

Wow, you're good. Drink lots of water and avoid alcohol. I need to do what you do.
