Our culture and hip-hop/rap?
Does anyone agree that Rap/Hip-hop being advertised to young children should be illegal? Are parents oblivious to the fact that their children are developmentally unstable and anything they take in will affect them for the rest of their lives? Do they not see how sexually provacative the music is and hear the references to alcohol & drug abuse? Women are dressing like wh*res, and they way the dance to rap music is absolutely disgusting. How can a self respecting woman rub their behind against another man's crotch in public like that? I dont see why this is being allowed to slide in our society.
Thats a fairly good answer MissusD but you asked what is being marketed to 12-14 year olds? MTV and BET are probably the worst influences on American society today. I personally loved hiphop prior to 1996, but everything afterwards has been totally tasteless and vulgar.
It has to be rap/hip-hop's fault. They make plenty of money, but it comes at the expense of thousands of lives. No other genre in music could be considered as filthy, vulgar and sexually explicit, not even metal.

I love the music today. Ever since i discovered hip hop and rap i was so into it. This was in 97 or 98. I love the beat the music and all the dances with it. And i love the feeling to the music. I think youth should be able to wear what they want and listen to it. Otherwise they will probably go against their parents backs and listen to the music. Maybe even smoke pot get drunk and all that stuff. I did the same thing behind my dads back because i did what i wanted. But yeah their were consequences i had to face. Even though i never even cared but that was just me. I honestly think their is always a way to relate to hip hop and rap Because it tells a story and it tells the world how you feel about your life and how you were raised and what environment you came from. Like i was abused as a child and i had a lot of anger to express. And child abuse can be one of the many roots to hip hop rap music. Because when you feel abused you shut yourself out and close up on everyone and when you don't have a way to express how you feel you get more angry.

You can make rap/hip hop's advertisement illegal. Where do you see rap being advertised to young children? I don't see cardboard cutouts of 50-Cent next to places like the Disney Store. Seriously.
Rap culture is an industry now that is fueled by so much money, despite the negative images it proliferates. [Money makes the world go 'round ...] This irritates me because you can't just blame rap for everything, parents have to step in and make that their children aren't exposed to inappropriate subject matter - whether it be through television, radio, etc - regardless of if it's rap or not.
Because to be honest? It's all in the parenting skills. I grew up in a predominately African-American neighborhood and all I listened to was rap and hip hop. It was up to my parents to set boundaries on what was okay for me to listen to and what was off limits.
For one, you could take this statement; "How can a self respecting woman rub their behind against another man's crotch in public like that? I don't see why this is being allowed to slide in our society." <--- That line is so generalized. You could apply that same statement to strippers! XD;
Besides, if you address rap and hip hop; you have to address the fact that women are allowing themselves to be degraded in these videos, the negative stereotypes that are continually spread ... the list goes on and on, and it's not just dealing with this specific topic, this problem goes far beyond this genre of music.

I agree that rap has some negative points. However, it should be the parent's job to make sure the music their children listens to is appropriate. And the videos they watch. But rap isn't the only kind of music that has negative points. Metal also has some bad stuff in it, although not a lot of it involves sex. For example, the band Deicide (awesome band, by the way) expresses the singer's Satanism.
As for cuss words, you can't really shelter kids from them. There will be kids whose parents don't care about what they listen to, and the kids who have been sheltered will pick up cussing from there.

I strongly agree. Rap music sends out all the wrong messages. The last thing this world needs is for a young girl to be raped or a young boy to get shot. But not all rap is bad; take "Runaway Love" by Ludacris f/Mary J. Blige for example: enstating that "its OK to run away from your problems & cry; that you pray everything turns out better & that you can be happy again". I do not say this to be offensive/hippocratic. I am glad that people are taking action to this monster that needs to die.

i have evolved with this society and that will never change. sex has always been part of everything in entertainment. and hiphop/rap isnt the only kind of music that talks about what your ranting about. Anytype of music out there say the same things and even pop artists look like wh*res when there suppose to be wholesome. My point is, Rap isnt the only type to show what your saying, and your problem with what your ranting about is never going to change.

Well i say no its not illegal, depending on how rap music is used. If it throwing out positive message to younger generation, such as rap used in contemporary gospel music then its ok. But using it to exploit kids to drugs, sex, and violence, then i would say yes its illegal and degrading.

no, rap/hip hop is very popular. If parents don't want their children to listen to profanity, then either buy the edited cd's for them or don't allow them to listen to it at all
