To those who call themselves Christians?

Romans 2:23-25

You who talk about being a Christian , do you dishonor God by not acting/speaking like Jesus? It is written: "God's name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you."

Are you a proper represenative of Christ and His words or do you cause shame to the ideals of Christianity before the world?

Update:

To those that know me know that I am NOT sinless but everyday trying to sin less

Update 2:

CELA,

HOW have I judged?

Many are far from "Christ-like" in behaviour, and in fact are making a mockery of the person they are supposed to be setting a good example by.

  • You've misquoted that

    it should be

"You who talk about being a Jew, ..."

However, it is doubtless true that the possibilities for a christian are so fantastic that most believers fall well short in this life.

Edit: Also that quote is part of an argument about people not being able to attain to God's righteousness through their own efforts. He is not saying you have to be good to be accepted by God. He is just showing that the Jewish people, who were very given to despising the gentiles and thinking that their religious performance was good, didn't live up to their own standards.

He uses this evidence of their failure and the gentiles failure to say that 'all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God' and hence need the Saviour to atone for them, and acceptance via grace.

  • I understand where you are coming from. I try to properly present God from the Bible point of view not mine. Sometimes I expound my thought on a certain verse or passage that is asked about, in those cases I go and find the said passage or verse, pray, read it, cross reference it and then answer. People are people. I think a lot of times the Bible says what people do not want to hear and it upsets them, they get upset with the person who answers the question. If you go to the Holy Bible for the answers to questions that is what I consider being like Christ, if you don't go there for the answers you are then blaspheming God. We should never be ashamed of telling people what the Word of God says....In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. I always try to treat all people with respect. God says love thy neighbor.....as I see it, God didn't put any conditions on that when he said it, so I can't either. God Bless

Unfortunately, yes, we do dishonor God in many ways. BUT that brings up a great point as to why God is so great. He understands that we screw up and he forgives us!!!!!!!! When it comes to being a proper representative of Christ and his words this is something that no one truly knows about anyone else's situation. Only God knows who truly in their heart loves, honors and respects him. Christianity is not just about how you say happy things, smile all the time and float around on a cloud. IT'S A PERSONAL, GENUINE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN YOU AND GOD!

I sincerely keep this ever before me. As I know that we are "a chosen generation, a royal priest hood, an holy nation, a peculiar people that should shew forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvelous light." 1 Peter 2:9

We are not to act like the world, nor dress like them nor partake of their worldliness but we must set an example.

Lk 16:8 says: "And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light. " -

Is this not a sad statement? Should WE who are called not be wiser than the world if we are faithful to God?

"For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. " 1 Cor 3:19

Well, we are to strive to be perfect... Perfection won't be reached until we are out of this human form, and in our spiritual form.

I try to be as Christ like as possible, expect myself to slip, pick myself up, ask for forgiveness and direction and carry on -Guilt free. 100% human.

Remember in John 8:1, when the scribes and Pharisees had caught a woman in the act of adultery, and Jesus said "You without sin cast the 1st stone" and each one of them dropped their stones and walked away? Or the verse that says Matt 7:5- "You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye."

God doesn't expect perfection, He expects repentance.

Being the best we can be as a human, with flaws is an accurate and proper representation of a person who has been justified, striving to be Christ like.

  • I strive to live and speak as Christ would have me. I too am not perfect but I am striving everyday for that goal. I cannot say whether or not I am a "Proper representative" only God can.

    Peace Be With You,

Sad that so many expect us Christians to BE perfect all the time. We strive to be and ask for forgiveness and strength when we fail..

We are supposed to evangelize at all times, and if absolutely necessary, even use words,~~~~Saint Thomas Aquinas (I think)

Our actions are more important, especially when non-Christians can't wait to make a big story when one of us fails. Good Luck and God Bless!

Nobody is perfect nor are you. All we can do is try very hard, slip, fall, and then try again. That is why Jesus forgave us our sins. It is all about love and accepting Jesus as our savior. It is not about being harsh, critical or mean spirited toward anybody. Everyone must look within themselves and grow with Christ. You my dear friend are turning people off from teh true message of Christ.

I am not sinless, nor you, nor anyone who walks on this planet today.

It would be impossible to be perfect, so why choose christians of all the groups who are supposed to be "Godly" and ask this question because one person who is/was a christian let a foul utterance escape their mouth.

we are saved because we repent.

I continually strive to make myself better for Christ. Not for man. If I tried to please you in my words I would be sinning.

Instead, I please God with my words because my words are a tool.

If we think we have Christ's mouth and words, and Christ's hands are our hands, we can do what we are here to do without thinking of ourselves.

If the salt has lost it's savor what good is it?

Many today say being being a lukewarm PC tolerant Christian is the way you have to be (and many claim they are this kind of christian).

    There is no such Christian.

Jesus said he would spew the church of Laodicea out of His mouth for being lukewarm.
