Is there a good mnemonic device to remember the ten commandments in order?

First 4 commandments are to God Himself.

Number 5 honors father and mother

6,7,8,9 are short - not kill, not commit adultery, not steal, not lie

10 shall not lust after anything that belongs to someone else.

Here's my effort:

1 No other gods

2 Idols

3 Blaspheme

4 Sabbath

5 Parents

6 Murder

7 Adultery

8 Steal

9 False witness

10 Envy

No innocent babies should pray meaninglessly.

Atheism shall free everyone.

Over Very High Hills King Arthur Shall Walk Come Night. (I can t take credit. My kids in my Prep class gave this to me decades ago and I still use it myself.)

2. V - You should not take the Lord s name in Vain.

3. H - Honor the Sabbath.

4. H - Honor your parents.

5. K - You should not Kill.

6. A - You should not commit Adultery.

7. S - You should not Steal.

8. W - You should not bear false Witness.

9. C - You should not Covet your neighbor s wife.

10. N - You should not covet your Neighbor s goods.

you have to remmemer Catholics and Protestants have the same commandments numbered slightly different...

Not that I can think of. What makes you think there are only ten? Originally there were twelve as I understand it. The other two are being kept secret until the Endtimes by Kabbalistic Jews. Or that's what I heard.

Hear O' Israel the LORD our God the LORD is One - Love the LORD your God with all your heart with all your soul with all your spirit and with all your might and the second is like unto it love your neighbor as yourself - on these two commandments is hung all the law and the prophets.

I use flash cards in Sunday school, stickers, and coloring sheets if that helps

in the end you just write them down in the shortest for m you can and memorizes them

They are not numbered in the original texts. Different faiths number them differently.
