How to build up muscle?
Hi, I was wondering what kind of excercises are best for building muscle tone. Right now I'm 5'9", and weigh about 135 lbs.
I have absolutely no upper body strength (I can't even do one pushup), I'm not fat, but my stomach looks flabby when I sit, and I can't run very fast.
So I was wondering what are the best excercises for building upper body strength, defining abs, and building leg muscle? And please explain how each are done, because I've never done any kind of training.

since you're new to weight training I'd recommned you temporarily get a fitness instructer (1-2 weeks) at your local gym to show you how to do excerices properly and SAFELY. Weight training can be dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. But, basic proven lifts for building strenght are the : bench press, shoulder press, leg press, squats (not for beginners), bicep curl, lat pulldown, cable row. Check these out on the internet, they're good and efficient because most (except bicep curl) work out several muscles at once instead of only one at a time. As a beginner 3-4 times per week is enought in order to allow muscle recovery inbtwn. workouts. I go 3x per week for 30-45 minutes.
