Pregnancy Heartburn?

I am 27 weeks and have been having bad heartburn. I take Tums when it comes on and even sleep with the bottle next to my bed. It doesn't seem to matter what I eat. Anyone have any other suggestions besides Tums?

I feel your pain. Ever since I found out I was pregnant, I have had the worst heartburn and indigestion. For a while it was controlling my life... I couldn't eat certain foods, I couldn't sleep because of it, it was hard to do anything!

Here are a few things that helped for me:

-avoiding the foods that give you heartburn (this is hard, since most foods do!)

-drinking non-caffeinated soda (preferable mug root beer. helps to burp)

    -drinking a glass of milk.

    -tums, as you mentioned.

-don't lay down for at least 2 hours after eating.

-going for a walk can help digest food.

    Hope this helps, goodluck!

    Congrats!

Even before I was pregnant I found that whenever I took Tums or Rolaids I would have worst heartburn after wards and it would last longer until I was in a cycle of taking the pills.

I have also had allot of heartburn during my pregnancy, especially when I lay down. I have started to eat earlier and recline in bed. This seems to help. So far I've been able to stay off the antacids.

A glass of milk will help your heartburn plus give you the calcium you need! I had HORRIBLE heartburn while pregnant. I lived off of milk and tums the whole 8 months! to avoid it make sure not to eat too much at once or anything spicy! Eat small meals often with liquid like water or milk. You may want to stay away from Caffeine also. Good luck and Congrats!

I'm almost 27 weeks and i had severe acid relux b4 i got pregnant and i can't take the prescriptions ne more because it's not healthy for the baby but what i do that works really well it's gross but it helps.. Put 1 table spoon of pure baking soda into an 8 oz glass of water and chug it... and then follow by some mylanta. It helps alot. I don't have heart burn as much as acid but the pain is the same and caused by the same thing.. But just remember heart burn is a head full of hair on ur baby!!

I've heard that a glass of milk helps, pregnant or not. Also, I've heard that if you have bad heartburn that the baby is going to have a lot of hair. Congrats!

You poor thing, I was this way with my first. Are you having a girl? Anyway there wasn't anything I could find to cure it. I hope you do... oh sometimes milk actually would help a little. Not sure why but it would. Also I am sure you already know...stay away from the spicy stuff and red sauces.

When I was pregnant, I drank a lot of milk to help my heartburn. I had it all the time for both of my babies.

I had the same problem when I was pregnant from about 8 weeks through birth. It didn't matter what I ate, how much water I drank or how many tums I took. I suffered through it because nobody ever gave me any advice, but one of my friends drank lemon ginger hot tea, and it worked wonderfully for her. I drink it now and it always helps, of course it's different when you're pregnant, but it helped her.
