Anyone have any experience with being induced with prostaglandins?

My midwife made an appoinment to induce me in one week. I will be 41.2 weeks if I make it that long. She said they have pills and suppositories that they insert in the vagina and it helps start labor. She did say that it could be 2-3 days I could be in labor before I get to see my baby!!! Is this true? Have any of you used this? How long did you labor? Thanks.

UGH! I was induced this way with my first. It took 18 hours for me to even go into labour! I was in pain throughout though, It was awful. Just be prepared for horrible period type pains constantly, and contractions that dont really seem to have any effect. The only good thing was that I was only in active labour 1 hour 20 mins, once I finally got going there was no stopping me!!! Do plenty of reading up on induction, I was so unprepared, and just expected to go straight into labour and be able to do as I pleased. But thats not the case. Everytime you have the stuff inserted you have to be hooked up to the monitor for 20 mins before and after. And it can take a few times, Three lots of the prostaglandins I got!

I had both Pitocin and Prostiglandin at the same time. Full speed drip and the gel on the cervix. Prostiglandin burns like holy heaven and turns your crotch a nice forrest green color. I was on this CRAP for 2 days from 6 am until 10 pm every night and NEVER made a single centemeter of progress. I ended up having a c-section at the beginning of day 3 in labor.

I've been induced with the gel two times. The first was very slow to start and the contractions were not painful at all. The pain started about 2 hours after my water was broken. My baby finally dropped and I was in constant pain from the pressure. The second time everything happened quickly and once my water was broken, then I had very intense and painful contractions. Once I started pushing, things got much easier because I had something to focus on.

I was given the prostaglandin gel to induce labour. It didn't bring on labour. I had it inserted twice...8 hours apart. No labour...but I had terrible cramps as it made my uterus spasm...stayed the night in the hospital...they sent me home. My water broke about 3 hours later...back to the hospital...still no labour...by the next morning they had to start a pitocin drip to gt things going...I was in labour for 6 hours and pushed him out in 33 minutes...have your pain releivers sorted out as the contractions when induced with pitocin are very strong.
