Oh dear, it seems to be happening all over again doesn't it?
The parents of wee Madelaine, whom let's pray to god is safe and well, make their first TV interview appearance yesterday and the knives are out on Yahoo answers! I have read questions suggesting everything from they didn't treally give a damn about the child through to specualtions that the Mother has killed the child or the Father is some kind of monsterous control freak and is hiding something. What's worse is people join in with such garbage, one question I answered was specualting if we should have sympathy or be suspicious. I got 11 thumbs down for sympathising for their mental anguish, every other answer got the boot in on the old story of it being their own fault or specualted the parents were up to something and got tons of thumbs ups! How does that make any sense? I simply say, pray the poor mite is found safe and well, show support to the parents and people like them and reserve viscious judgement or it may just bite you on the backside one day!
What are your thoughts?
It is such a shame some people also seem incapable of entering into a debate without getting personal or offensive, usually it is the angry judgemental types to which I first referred. Funny that isn't it?
lettinitbe, I had the same thoughts about the "old enough and ugly enough" comment. It's as good as saying, I know better than you because I am older and wiser! (judgements and assumptions in themselves)
Sadly I thought my question would be a waste of time too, though on a postive note, you and a few others have restored my faith in humanity.
Differences of opinion aside, this afterall a question a basic humanity. It equates to a feeling no sympathy for a burns victim who ended up that way by falling asleep with a lit cigarette.
My comparison makes a lot of sense actually Lady Faversham, in both cases you would have a lack of the entire facts that make up the individual case and circumstances before making a sweeping, holier than than thou judgement; precisley what you have done. Still explaining irony to some people is pointless, particularly given it's whole premise is about an obvious factor completely missed by the ignorant.

FINALLY someone with a bit of common sense. The people here on Yahoo have shown their true colours over this whole case.It just shows you the mentality of what seems like a majority on here...one which makes me fear for the intelligence of the human race.
Anyway, thank you for posting this
Let the thumbs down roll in

i agree with Marilyn above me! It is strange that the parents left her alone in the room, but i think everyone (and i mean you people that don't have ALL the facts or the information, and should perhaps read about it a bit more before jumping to conclusions and making unpleasant statements about the poor family !!) needs to remember that the resort where they are staying is meant to a be a safe environment!!! Therefore I understand why they left her alone, no matter how stupid that was, they obviously felt relaxed and safe in an environment that is meant to be safe, enclosed etc etc. And Portugal is a popular holiday destination point, with many of these enclosed resorts with private homes. holiday homes , popular because they are a safe environment!! or meant to be.. (so look it up , google it, also paedophiles are everywhere, so the person who thinks they are only in Portugal really should read the news a bit more!)
Whatever mistakes the family made made in an error of judgment i am sure they are asking themselves that question about leaving her on her own every minute of everyday and we should all be feeling for their pain as each day without their child is another day where she really may never been seen again!

I think most people just feel really angry that an innocent child has gone missing. Naturally, people blame the parents as most normal people feel that leaving three babies alone is just not acceptable. The really frustrating thing is that the parents seem to show absolutely no emotion of lack of remorse and the general public simply will not warm to the apparent coldness and detached attitude the parents have. Mr McCann continually makes up excuses for leaving his children and then has the cheek to suggest that this behaviour is normal and lots of parents do it - simply not true. He is clearly a man who likes to take control and will never admit that he is wrong. I haven't even mentioned the bodyguards, Team McCann, the "charity" they set up which is actually a Limited company. Of course people want Maddie to be found - that's obvious. However, the parents are not commanding any sympathy because of their own cold behaviour. Most parents would barely be able to hold it together in front of cameras but no, the McCanns pull it off beautifully. I do not have children but I do have a dog - do you know that I would NEVER even leave my dog tied up outside a shop for a minute because he might get stolen!

I feel this: Her parents made a mistake. I would NEVER have left my child anywhere especially in a strange place with no supervising adult there all the time in my absence. Maybe I am too protective, but that is me. However - they have lost their daughter. Nobody deserves to go through the unimaginable nightmare of their child being taken and vanishing into thin air. Her parents probably havent ate or slept if her mothers anything to go by she looks to me like she is slowly starving herself to death with anguish and what they are both living is an existance not a life and it probably feels like a nightmare they cant wake from - they are no doubt not in the real world with the rest of us anymore, and they never will be again until they get a conclusion. I think the reason people choose to condemn is because its a situation like a road accident its too horrible to look. It's even more horrible to think about. And these people were ordinary parents who took their eye off the ball, made one slip and that was all it took, a huge price to pay for a relaxed attitude. Theres also the element of being glad it happened to someone else. We can always handle a tragedy when it happens to someone else, because its a million miles from us. I hope she is found safe and well and I hope all the money that's been raised will be invested for her future - that little girl deserves a massive compensation. And I think everyone who has kids will be holding them tighter and keeping them closer and in that sense of relief and safety and reassurance I think its easy to become self righteous and judge others as a reflex.

How on Earth can you compare an accident with a cigarette to two parents leaving their kids alone in an unlocked room to go out and enjoy themselves for the evening?!
And Vicpil - leave a child alone for a split second - try three of four hours - hardly a split second!!!
That is why we vilify them!
Unless Maddy is found we will never know anything for certain - I just hope she is found and soon - preferably alive and well so we can put this to rest and turn our attention to another subject!

First off, I'm not going to get into some sort of cyber-slanging match with you or any of the other McCann supporters. The reason I feel so angry at them is this: if Madeleine is still alive, she will be wondering where she is, who she's with and what's happening to her. She will be very scared and very bewildered and will want her mummy and daddy...the very two people who left her in the first place. She is a 4 year old child with no choice in what is happening to her, they are two supposedly intelligent adults who did have a choice in their actions.
I'm not defending the abductors for one second, just because Madeleine was left alone was no excuse for taking her, they are very sick and deserve severe punisment if they are ever found. But if the McCanns had been with the kids like they should have been, this would probably not have happened. Of course this could have happened another way, no-one's denying that, we see the news, we're not stupid. But just because it could have, it doesn't excuse what the McCanns did, it doesn't make it make right, does it?
I know you don't like people telling it like it is about the McCanns, so as this is your question, I'm going to respect your wishes and say nothing bad about them. But I'd like to ask you a favour too. Please could you just think on this for one minute? If we didn't care about Madeleine, do you really think we'd get this angry? Are we really such bad people because we put the welfare of a 4 year old child before the feelings of her parents? Answer one thing: If you had the choice of finding Madeleine or sparing her parents feelings, which one would you do?
I know slagging them off isn't helping anything, but neither is defending them, so does it really matter what any of us say? Madeleine is missing, there is nothing any of us can do about it, we all wish to God we could. Madeleine is the most important part of all this; not you, not me, not the parents, not the mcCann supporters, not those who dislike the McCanns. So I think we're just all going to have to agree to disagree because we're never going to come to an amicable agreement and fighting between ourselves is going to solve nothing.
I'm sorry if this is a little long, but I'm a mum to a 3 year old so this is a very emotional subject for me. I hope I have answered your question and put my views across without being offensive or saying anything you think is out of line.

i totally agree with you
i do not have children and in my right mind i would never leave one alone if i did
but how many times do people leave their child alone think about it paying for petrol, hanging the washing out all these are oppertunities that someone could take advantage of
the difference hereis that someone did take advantage yet for the thousands of parents that leave their children for that split second luckily someone did not take advantage
also people are thinking that the way they are acting is a bit strange
are you in the same position NO so dont say that the way they are acting is strange, if they are innocent and god pray they are then they are probably thinking what is the best way to react so i dont seem heartless also if you are not in the same position how would you know the right way to react nobody does
so leave them alone until we find out what has happened to madeline then if they are guilty
sort them out then
thank you

Agree with you, the same people would try making sense of the Holocaust by saying it is their fault.
