senators or ducks, a nationalistic question?

Ok stanley cup play offs have begun, now I am a Loyal Vancouver Canuck fan so I have a dilema of whom to chear on for the run. First off the Ottawa senators, canadian team (sort of there are actually more canadians on the ducks 20 to 16 on the senators) and it is ottawa, if they win then We will be the only canadian team NOT to have won the cup :(

Or the ducks they are a western team (like the canucks) they also have a lot o canadians on the team and thier GM - brian Burke used to work for us (until the owner fired him)

So who to choose?

If the cup has to go to the west coast it will be even more tarnished than when it went to the land of GW Bush. This might be a sign of the end of the world

I'm with TMLeafs Fan. I'm a Leafs fan too and have a hard time cheering for Ottawa. Has nothing to do with bringing the Cup back to Canada....like you said, the Ducks have a lot of Canadian players on their squad.

I really only hope Ottawa wins for Jason Spezza's sake. He is the only dude in a Sens jersey that I like.

On the other hand, I wasn't totally overjoyed that the Ducks won last night. What I can say is that I was very satisfied with the overall game and hope that it goes all the way to Game 7!

Source(s): As you can see, I'm grabbing at any opportunity or reason to cheer for either team. I wanted my Leafs or the SJ Sharks to have the Cup this year!

I'd say the Ducks, cheer for your Conference. I know the Canadians seem to say oh cheer on Ottawa to "bring the Cup home" but this isn't an international competition. The Cup won't STAY IN OTTAWA, it will go to where ever the PLAYERS take it. It's not a Superbowl trophy or such where it stays in the city of the winner. Personally I am cheering for Ottawa even though I am in the U.S. because I am cheering for my Conference. If I hear too many of these Canadians who keep saying "bring it home", which thankfully doesn't seem to be the case this year and actually some are saying they are cheering for the Ducks, then I will cheer against Ottawa simply because of how annoying that is.

I am also torn because I am a Sabres fan and Ottawa is a rival I would say the Ducks but then I do want to root for the East, so...

I guess I will just sit and enjoy the games stress free.

Honestly, I am hoping the Ducks win it :)

I do think a lot of people are rooting for Ottawa because they want the Canadian team to win but as some of the other answerers have said: the teams have players from all over the world so who cares if a team from Canada or the US gets it...

This year, I'm hoping for Ottawa...next year I'd like to see Vancouver beat Buffalo in the finals.

As a Calgary fan stranded in Toronto, its always good to hear the whining after every other Canadian team has won or at least been to a Stanley Cup Final since 1990...never mind 1968.

I'm going for the Ducks. They have 2 of the 3 best defensemen in the NHL with offensive fire power and two great goaltenders. Also, this past season, when Western teams went against Eastern teams, Western teams won more than double the amount of games than the Eastern teams won. Anaheim had more points this last season (110) than Ottawa (105) and Anaheim is in the very defensive West while Ottawa is in the offensive East.

Choose whoever you like the most or hate whoever you hate the most. It's not a nationalistic question. The media always like to hype up the idea of Canada's team - Calgary, Edmonton and now Ottawa.

I don't know how Canucks fans could have cheered for Calgary and Edmonton and Leafs fan can cheer for Ottawa. Just because we're Canadian doesn't mean we have to cheer for 'Canada's team'.

The sentiment of Trornto, and Niagara Falls, seemed to be "Go Ducks, Sens Suck!" as I was walking around the area of Yonge and Front Streets on Saturday, as well as near Clifton Hill. It could have helped I was wearing the 3rd jersey from the 96-97 season - the teal one with the mascot (Wild Wing) jumping out the ice.

But I've been a Ducks fan all along, and think the Sens coach is a whiner.

I don't think it's a nationalistic question...we all know whose sport this is.

I'm not a Canucks fan, but seeing as you are I would think you would cheer for Ottawa because of the incredibly overpaid and underachieving team Burke left you guys. If it wasn't for Nonis fleecing the Panthers and getting Luongo, you guys would have been in the West basement with Bertuzzi and his bad back and bad attitude. Burke certainly has done better for the OC than he ever did for you.

Ducks have the best goalie still playing, the most dominate player (Pronger) and a top coach and GM. They play a strong physical game and they're loaded with Canadian talent. Add to it the sentimental favourite Teemu Selanne and for me the choice of who would win was easy. I also can't stand Alfredsson or the Senators and the only way I would have cheered for them was if Detroit had made it to the finals.

Sens have a really good team and I like most of the Ottawa players, but I am rooting for the Ducks...I guess it is because of Selanne.
