Membrane Sweep? I'm having one done today.?

I will be 37 weeks tomorrow and have been dialated to 2 cm and 50% effaced for 5 weeks now. This is baby #4 for us. I'm nervous, I've heard it works or it doesn't. What is your input? Should I be ready just in case it works? Or take it with a grain of salt? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

I had this procedure done with both of my pregnancies and I delivered within 12 hours both times. I'm not going to lie to you, it is an uncomfortable procedure but well worth it! Good Luck and Congratulations!!

A lot of pregnant women swear by this procedure. I am going to the doctor's today and asking them to do it. They simply sweep their finger around your cervix to separate your bag of waters from your cervix. I guess the success rate of the process depends upon how ready your baby is to be delivered. If you've been dilated for that long of a time, I would guess that this process will be successful for you. Best of luck - I hope it works!

My cousin had a little boy this Monday gone. She went 8days over due and they gave her a sweep on the Saturday before so it didn't work quickly for her.

I would be ready anyway, just in case it does work. Better to be prepared than not.

    Good luck

I had mine swept with my last at around 4pm in the afternoon, delivered at 9:07am the next morning, the secret and key to making this work is to walk your butt off, and I dont just mean around the block you need to get out and walk. Go to a mall, park etc...walk for as long as you possibly can!

My friend had this done with her second. Her mom was in town and she wanted to have the baby before her mom went home and she was late. It did work quite well, however she said it was very very uncomfortable - not nearly as much as labour and delivery but enough so, she wouldn't do it again with this one (her third).
