Upset after sonogram - dr. didn't even show me the genitals!?

We had our sonogram last week and I'm still a little upset. During the sono, the doctor rushed through it. He didn't go over the body parts, just kinda said everything looks great. He stood up, turned off the machine and said "oh, do you want to know what it is?" We were like yes. As he's walking out the door, he says "it's a boy." My husband said maybe it's because we already have 3 others, but I still would have loved for this songram to be just as special. Our last sonos were at this same place, but a different doctor. We have Aetna insurance, so I felt jipped! My others were such great experiences! Maybe I'm overreacting. What do you think?

Update:

This is not my regular doctor, she doesn't do sonograms; it is who my doctor referred us to.

well the doctors mannerism seemed way out of line, whether you were having #1 or #10 you should always be treated with respect. It doesn't seem this doctor gave you guys this at all.

I would of been upset too

You are not overreacting. Sonograms have been a part of pregnancy for a while now. Any good doctor or technician should be sensitive enough to know that this is a special occasion for the parents .The doctor needs to be aware that he is making a bad impression as his manner could definitely affect his career.

Call the office and ask to have a nurse return your call at a good time when s/he has time to talk. Tell the nurse you would like to see your sonos again at your next visit. Explain that this is for family, emotional reasons and that the doctor was too hasty before. Sonograms are medical records, and you are entitled to see yours. Be pleasant about it and see what happens.

I've never had a sonogram that lasted long enough! I wish I could just lay there and watch for the whole pregnancy but your sonogram sounded quite rushed and I would feel cheated too. Evaluate how things are going with your doctor otherwise, if he just seems too busy or like he doesn't really care, then get a new one, its worth it to change now before you get any further along. You and that baby deserve a doctor who enjoys being a doctor and who will make this a special experience for you all.

this is an election season. Any information is solid information. different than once you degrade the 2d in line for the Democratic nomination... interesting math. the story had no chew. yet it exchange into extorted. Hillary Clinton has Darth Vader for a marketing campaign supervisor. Patty Solis-Doyle. Then the dark stress employs over 4 hundred hurricane infantrymen. something damaging anticipate Hillary '08 is in the back of it. Even her very own hits. She is in thick with Rupert Murdoch (Google murdoch-clinton). this is all planned political techniques-set. Welcome to the international of politics. What pin? Who cares? He reported too lots and alter into caught off shield by employing a brownie reporter. this is the element. He did no longer handle the warmth. (around table ABCNews This Weekend w/ George Stephanopoulos) Hillary '08 gets extra empathy as she is perceived attacked. Oh Scarlet!! 13 yrs of stress.... blabla hahaha right here and there. in ordinary terms a song and dance. thank you.

My doctor never did my sonos (an ultrasound tech did them)so I really can't relate to that...I would however complain at the next apt. He probably doesn't even realize that he did it. If he blows you off again I would seriously think of finding a new doctor (it is not uncommon to switch OB's in the middle of a pregnancy).

I did not have a great ultrasound at 20 weeks. The tech was like well "I think it is a girl" which was fine because we had a 4d at 16 weeks and the tech said it was a girl. Then, she asked if we wanted pictures. I was like sure! SHe brought us back XRay films. I asked her why we got those and she said she accidentally printed it on them. So now I have Xray films of my child. I told my husband it was a waste of insurance money her to even give them to us, she should of destroyed them. Its not like I can put them in a baby book or anything. After that, I was extremely happy we paid to have a 4d before moving out of the states.

Sounds like the doctor was very rushed that day. If he consistently behaves like that, I'd look into getting another obgyn. Doctors who rush are always trying to cram more patients into a day to make more money. I had a bad experience with a doctor like that. When he did my c-section he was in such a hurry he cut a crooked line. My next obgyn who performed my second c section even mentioned to me that it was crooked and she'd try to fix it. Don't stick with an obgyn if you get any negative vibes about him!

i dont think your over reacting...

i felt upset when i asked for pics from my first sonogram and the lady only gave me one!...

geeze lol i felt jipped too.. your really emotional when pregnant and he shoulda asked while doing the sonogram.. mine asked while doing it.. i didnt get to see them tho or get a pic of them... and my second sono gram she only gave me one pic and one pic of the feet because SHE thought it was cute!... that pissed me off.. lol...

I found out the hard way if you dont ask you will never get what you want!..

you should have asked can you tell what it is has he was doing the sono and if he told you you could have asked for a pic...

    congrats!!!!!

While its nice when a doc has a pleasant bedside manner, that isn't always the case. To be frank, they don't have to show you anything. The ultrasound is done for medical reasons, anything else is just a bonus. If you want one for pure pleasure, pay for the 4D kind. That doc sounds like he could work on his bedside manner a bit, but its over, so not really anything you can do. No sense in stewing over this. Best of luck, sorry he wasn't nicer.

You are not over reacting. you deserve to see all of his little body parts and his genetals. it is a possibility that the doctor was in a hurry but that shouldnt matter. If it had happend to me when I got home I would have called the place and let them know what happend. Maybe they could have done something about it
