Why do people pair L with Light in fanart/fanfiction?

I've noticed a lot of people seem to like the pairing of L/Light from Death Note. I really don't see how people were able to come up with it... sure, they are two cute guys, but what would make someone think that L could like Light, or the other way around? I know it's all done by fans but some people have actually said that there are hints of L/Light in the series. I don't really know what the basis of their relationship would be... personally I could never see it. What do you think? o_O

cus.. people like the interaction they both have

how they try to let the other one's guard down and extract info by asking specific questions or do something to see their reaction.. this canon relationship attracts the yaoi fandom i guess.. especially the fanservice they provide in episode 25 when Light actually massaged L.. that must've inspired a hell lot more yaoi fanfictions..

if only they both man and woman.. i'd say they might fall in love or something.. XD

but that's just my opinion though..

personally i'm not a fan of made-up pairings in anime or other fiction, especially when they pair up enemies. i know anything goes in the world of fanfiction but it's just too weird for me, so i avoid looking at/reading them.

when i found out about the DN pairings (L/Light, Near/Mello, Mello/Matt and god knows what else...Ryuuk/Light?) i was stunned because of none of these characters don't even like each other enough to be called friends, much less any other relationship beyond friendship. it's just too weird (and a little gross, i mean cmon, Mello and Near??) but like i said anything is possible in the fans' imagination.

perhaps the hint they were talking about was the foot-rubbing session in ep25, before 'it' happened (avoiding spoilers!!). i never took it to mean as a hint of a relationship between Light and L. it's just a chance the author gave to Light for him to realize what he's doing and to allow him to feel a little guilt of what he's about to do, and perhaps to show that L really meant that Light was his only real friend. (i guess that's why he said he was sad too, because if 'it' didn't happen they would've convicted his only friend) other than that i don't think there are any "hints" of gay relationships of any character in DN.

    Why? Why not?

Hon, its the fandom of Yaoi.

And alot of times, we see alot of rel life couples happen because 2 people work together in close quarters.

And that is how we make that pairing work in Yaoi. I love the pairing myself, basically its a hate/hate relationship.

And you will only understand it and know why we do it when you are into this fandom of Yaoi.

The only hints we get from the anime is from Ep 25... so sad.

Where L dries off Light's feet and Light wipes off L's hair.

Its more meant to be a religious personification of Jesus washing the feet of his disciples, but we girls can make do with any scene.

Just don't worry about it and if you don't like it, don't look.

because they were rivals, and they were even handcuffed together, and they were sort of friends, too, and the day L died, they had this sort of drying each other thingy and it was kinda sweet. but i don't support them being lovers

cause they are both friend and rival, like Naruto and Sasuke usually paired.
