I like the JL Audio 10W3v2's. I have a Ford Ranger and have a pair of the JL's powered by a Memphis Audio MCD500 amp providing 500RMS watts to the pair. On the Sub section I paid $800 amp and Subs. On the Mids and Highs I wanted to go JL and was talked out of it by the car audio dealer who pointed me to the Memphis Audio 15-MC5.7 which I did not think I was going to like because it was going from a 6X8 speaker to a 5X7 but I was actually impressed and they ran $160 a pair. I saved up and purchased them a pair at a time started by changing my front speakers then the back. I ran it off the Pioneer head unit for a while then bumped up to a Memphis 4 channel amp and it has made it sound awesome. Check into the Memphis audio for the mids and highs I think you will really like them.

You have a good start, and obviously you understand that you get what you pay for, so keep on adding nicer equiptment one piece at a time. I would just stick with JL since you have a head start on it.
When I worked in car audio, I got everything for 10% over cost, and I paid on it every week. I got one thing at a time, and it took me almost 3 years to get my dream system. It sucks not being able to get it all at once. There is a good side to getting it once piece at a time, by the time the new wears off, you get another piece.
good luck, and be patient.
