It is well established that Global Warming has components due to human activity, such as production of greenhouse gases and natural processes which we have no control over.

We are coming out of an ice age.

As recently as 10,000 years age much of the North American continent, including large portions of the United States were under an ice sheet over one mile thick. Gobal Warming due to natural processes caused this ice sheet to melt.

The important question is what portion of Global Warming is due to human activity and what portion is due to natural processes over which we have no control

With respect to the melting ice in Greenland, there is nothing new or surprising about that.

The proponents of the theory that Global Warming is due to natural processes will say that it is inevitable that the ice in Greenland will melt and there is nothing that we can do to prevent it, because it is not caused by human activity to begin with.

The proponents of the theory that Global Warming is caused by human activity will say that this is further evedence of the harm caused by Global Warming that is caused by human activity.

Essentially each side of this argument will say that this article is further evidence in support of their position.

I see no cause for alarm. Here is a passage from a journal article I dug up a while back. They come from:

    GEOPHYSICAL RESEARCH LETTERS, VOL. 33, L11707, 2006

"The glacier acceleration observed during the 1996–

2005 period [Rignot and Kanagaratnam, 2006] has probably

occurred previously. There should have been the same

or more extensive acceleration during the 1920–1930

warming as well as during the Medieval Warm period in

Greenland [Dahl-Jensen et al., 1998; DeMenocal et al.,

2000] when Greenland temperatures were generally higher

than today. The total Greenland mass seems to be stable or

    slightly growing"

Read that a couple of times and think about what it means in relation to the article you posted. This group is saying that the temp in Greenland has been higher in the past and that the ice mass is stable to slightly growing. This would seem to contradict the point of the article that you posted.

In the end, your article does not impress me, nor does it frighten me, nor does it strike me as anything new or unusual in light of the papers that I have read.

That article makes me realize how political the whole global warming scare has become. Greenland used to be warmer than it is today. Also, many perturbations to earth systems take centuries to be seen in continental ice sheets, so a change to the ice sheet is more likely evidence that climate change is NOT from human industrial activity, since that wouldn't be seen in the glaciers for many more years.

As any GW alarmist will tell you, you can't take the weather conditions in an isolated part of the globe and say that it applies to the entire globe.

Oh, wait - that only applies to skeptics. Alarmists use this tactic as one of their chief scare tactics.

    Isn't intellectual dishonesty grand?

The obvious solution to global warming is to conduct research into what kinds of pollutants can bring about another ice age! My Mastedon is starting to help, so I hope they hurry.

I agree with Bob that it's simply further evidence to add onto the pile supporting man-made global warming. The fact that the Greenland ice cap is melting faster than models predicted is rather scary though.

well i feel the same as i used to feel about global warming: worried and willing to help. if we dont all pitch in might as well kill ourselves cuz we're all gonna die, everyone should care about the enviroment because without it we would be dead or not even born, nature is fascinating but we shouldnt take advantage of it, we should try to help it because it was what gave us life, without nature there would be no such thing as us.

I think that nature is just fascinating!!

As the glaciers of Greenland recede, they reveal the farms of the Vikings who settled the area about a thousand years ago.

Isn't it amazing how the climate is always changing!!

It's worrying. But it's also one of hundreds of pieces of scientific evidence that the Earth is warming. So it's also not surprising.

I know that Greenland, in recorded history, was lush and fruitful and hopefully will soon be again.

More land in warmer climate means more food production.
