My dad is having a stent put in his heart next week. Should he be out doing stuff??

He is digging a trench for his septic tank and it is hot out side. Will he have a heart atack. I have asked him to wait till I get there at 3 EST.

Update:

I am very worried. I can not get off work for a while longer. My daughter (13) has tried to take over for him but he gets mad. I think I will try to get off of work early. He lives about 30 min away.

mild to moderate activity should be safe for him as long as he does not over do it. however if its digging a trench then I would like to ask you to stop him. Since he will have a stent placed in him then its safe to assume that one or more of his arteries may be blocked or narrowed. And a narrow artery means a smaller amount of blood going to the blocked organ (usually the heart) and with increased activity the heart needs more blood to supply its needs. with a low blood flow to that region will mostly lead to an infarction or an heart attack.

Your dad sounds like he is stubborn and in denial about his condition. Yes he could have a heart attack or more probably angina. Mild activity is all he should be doing if he can tolerate it. He is obviously stubborn and he knows he should not be doing it. I think he is probably trying to show everybody how tough he is and he probably enjoys having everybody fluttering around worried about him. He is probably also secretly afraid of the surgery and is trying to prove to himself that he won't be defeated. But yes. It is dangerous for him and I'm sure his doctor has given him instructions to limit activity.

He does not need to be doing anything. Is there anyone you can call to stop him or dig the trench for him ,so that he will be satisfied ?call him up and tell him to wait, because you are not going to have bad conscience for not being there, if something happens to him,cry if you have too.

he should not be out there however i have older family members and they dont listen to me either ..

but if it makes him happy let him be ...please go help him and then start to take over his project and at the end let him supervise ..make sure he brings you water and then make sure he is hydrated himself... call other relatives if you have them if not friends have them help so he will still be involved in the things he loves yet not exerting himself ok

stay positive ..immediately replace any negative with positive -a way to make it happen !!!! dont be discouraged or sad you will have comfort if knowing you helped your dad work in the yard and he was happy !!!

no he shouldnt because the heat will get to him and it will make him breath harder and alot so the more you breath your heart pumps blood so definately no because it will beat so hard that it will cause him to go in to a hard attack
