Is too much yogurt to bad for you?

My daughter lets her 4 yr old son eat 4 to 5 yogurts a day is this bad for him?

    thats a bit excessive for a 4 year old... i would look at the sugar contents to make sure there isnt alot in it.. that might be the reason why he likes them so much

    Yogurt is an excellent source of calcium, vitamin D and a small amount of B vitamins. It can also be an excellent blend of protein, fats and carbohydrates to support overall health. Some yogurt provide strains of bacteria that benefit the stomach and gastrointestinal system; so, yougurt is a good food.

    If your grandson eats 2-3 yogurts (4 oz each) a day, this should be a good supply of these nutrients. The problem with feeding him 4 - 5 per day is that it may displace other foods that are needed for his growth and development. For example, yogurt is not a good source of fiber. Fiber is needed to help move the waste material out of his body. Fruits, vegetables and whole grains supply fiber.

    Well, it honestly depends on the kind of yogurt.

    Calcium is not bad for a growing boy, but if he's having the fattening, sugary, blue-colored yogurt-like substances they're marketing for kids these days, then it is bad for him. The problem with yogurt is that it has a lot of fat in it, the way milk and cheese have a lot of fat in them. If he's eating fat-free yogurts, or low-sugar yogurts, the extra calcium is probably good for him.

    If he's just eating 4 to 5 regular yogurts a day, that can get to be unhealthy because of the excess fat in it.

    Though, he is very young, and if he's as hyper as other boys his age, he may burn all of this off just by running around. You could suggest that your daughter give reduced or no-fat yogurt (which really does not taste bad, as one would think.) to your son, and the excess calcium would definitely be beneficial for his growing bones.

    This probably depends on the yogurt. If your grandson is eating 4 or 5 Dannon yogurts per day then it is probably not good for him, because Dannon yogurt is heavily processed and has a lot of added sugar.

    If your grandson is eating organic yogurt or, really anything OTHER than the major dairy brands in the United States, it is probably ok.

    However, if he is eating yogurt instead of meals several times per day, then its possible that he isn't getting enough vitamins and nutrients because he isn't eating enough different things.

    If the yogurt is not organic, i wouldn't recommend eating such large amounts of it. Nonorganic yogurt contains potentially dangerous hormones and antibiotics. Also, if the yogurt she feeds him is high in sugar or artificial sweeteners, I wouldn't recommend him eating so much of it. Too much sugar can lead to obesity, and artifical sweeteners are dangerous (www.thetruthaboutspenda.com). Also, pasteurized dairy can also be problematic, as most of the dairy products produced in the U.S. are pasteurized (read more about pasteurized dairy at www.drmercola.com). The best yogurt to eat in large amounts would be raw organic plain yogurt with no additives. But if he is just eating plain pasteurized yogurt, I wouldn't say that it's terrible, and at least he is benefiting from the extra calcium.

    Too much yogurt is bad for sure. But if your grandson eats 5 of the small containers of yogurt then thats absolutely healthy. Because yogurt is a good source of calcium and its healthier than other common snacks for the kids (pretzels/chips/fries etc.). As long as the yogurt intake is less than about 600 ml and he is not getting sick somehow then its fine.
