Promotion, but I hate the job?
I just received a promotion at work about a month ago. I was a receptionist for an insurance company and now I am an agents assistant. I love the agent I work for, but I hate my new job. I was an awesome receptionist which is why they promoted me with no experience but this job is boring and mundane. The girl who took my position isn't doing so hot, if it doesn't work out for her should I ask to be moved down? If not what advise can you give me so I can look forward to work again...? Thanks for your help!

Sure you can ask for your old job back, but keep in mind that your employer may see this as insulting and unappreciative. You also need to remember that if you were given a pay raise with this promotion, it will be gone with the position change.
Weigh the pros & cons and make the best choice.

IF ya hate the new job, then yes moving down is an option, or maybe you could try to find another job as a receptionist at a higher pay, you just have to do what works best for you.

Most companies don't allow employees to step down, however, you may speak to the HR person regarding their policy. It's usually not a good idea to go backwards. If you really hate your new position, I would suggest you start looking for another position and use your current promotion to your benefit on your resume. This shows your good performance and that you are promotable. Good Luck!

I wouldn't suggest moving back down. You should let the agent know how you feel about the new job compared to the old one. Maybe he can find you an equally paying job at another office?? If you aren't happy, you just shouldn't do it. Imagine how you will feel 5 yrs from now.

Oh, absolutely . . yes, ask for your old position back, and don't wait until the new receptionist "doesn't work out". Let your supervisor know about how you feel. Your employers may just be ELATED that you want your old position back. P.S. They should continue paying the increase in wages, though, that you probably gained in your promotion.
