I have a Palm Tungsten E2. Is it worth buying a memory card to play tunes or should I save for an MP3 player?

The guide says you can use it like an MP3 player. It has an external speaker. I would need to buy a memory card but I'm not sure it's worth it.

save for an mp3 player. I believe the E2 only puts out mono signal. Also, there are going to be many times that you want the mp3 player with you when you don't want to carry the palm around, and you can get very compact mp3 players that will hold thousands of songs.

I have an E2 as well. For a long time I used it as my primary MP3 player and video player. It has exceptional sound quality for a PDA once the earphones are plugged in. The battery life, as you would already know, is also exceptional for pretty much any devise.

I have an ipod video (30Gb) now, and will be getting a treo in the next week.

Spring for the SD card. Minimum 512Mb. The E2 can only take a card up to 2Gb though, so be mindful of that. No use carrying around two or three devices when you have it all in one. The E2 can also play videos quite well, so if you're interested in that, spring for a 1Gb+ SD card. Buy a decent pair of earphones too; that can make all the difference sometimes.

I have a Palm Tungsten E2 and I have a memory card to use the mp3 player it is useful using it as a mp3 player because you don't have to carry your pda and your mp3 player.

the sound quality is quite good and even a small memory card holds lots of music.

Memory cards are much more cheaper than a few years ago anyway.

Why double up on gadgets, the E2 IS an mp3 player along with being a PDA. Memory cards are going down in price and are cheaper than buying a separate mp3 player.

You can put a bunch of songs on a 2GB SD card good for hours of music, podcasts, audio books. OR as it's summer, eBooks (print), etc....

In fact, you can read books and listen to music at the same time. If you don't want to read books, just listen to them. Podcasts provide hours of information and good fun.

Get yourself a good set of ear buds, the speaker plays mono, however, if you hook up ear buds or headphones to the audio jack, you will hear your music in stereo.

Spring for a SD card and unleash the power of the E2. SD cards are used in everything so if you don't like using it in the Palm you can always use this in a digital camera, digital picture frame, etc.....

    Good luck.

It is worth it the sound quality is great and it is very easy to transfer mp3 files. For a memory that can hold up to 500 songs it would be about $80
